Today's big League of Wales match takes place at Park Avenue, where fourth placed Aberystwyth Town entertain Cwmbran Town, who are in second place. Aber were 1-0 winners at Cwmbran earlier this season, and today's match will give them the opportunity to do the double over the Gwent side, and also offers a chance to get their season back on track, having suffered from some unexpectedly heavy defeats recently. Cwmbran, meanwhile, know that a victory at Park Avenue will move them further ahead of the chasing pack, and keep the pressure on Barry prior to our meeting.
The big match at the bottom of the table is one between two newly appointed managers. The game at Halkyn Road sees Holywell Town entertain Rhayader. The visitors are bottom of the table, but a win would take them above Holywell. However, Holywell's Vernon Keep was in good mood last week, and remains confident that his side can finish in top half of the table.
Having moved up to third spot, Inter Cabletel travel to Afan Lido this weekend. The Cardiff side want to avenge a 1-0 defeat at the beginning of the season, and are in good shape. As the other sides around them in the league have games in hand on Inter, they can't afford to throw points away, and anything other than a win again the club in fifteenth place would be just that.
At Belle Vue, Rhyl want to take all three points at home to Caersws this afternoon. Adie Jones' side have slipped to bottom but one, a point ahead of Rhayader. However, Rhyl will find it difficult against a Caersws side who now find themselves in the top half of the table.
At Richmond Park, Carmarthen entertain Conwy United. The North Walian side is a point ahead of Carmarthen at the moment, so position is up for grabs today. Tomi Morgan's Carmarthen side are looking more resilient as time goes by, especially on home turf, where only an injury time goal from Inter has seen them lose since Morgan joined them. However, Conwy have also been playing well, as seen by manager Stan Allen being awarded the Manager of the Month award for December. After their defeat to Barry last week they'll be looking to take something North with them today.
Newtown entertain Haverfordwest County at Latham Park today, and after losing 2-0 at the start of the season will want to win today and keep pressure on the other clubs chasing Europe. Haverfordwest will be looking to catch up with the leading pack, and halt their slide down the table.
Bangor find themselves in unfamiliar territory in the bottom half of the table, and will want to win at home to Total Network Solutions today. However, the Llansantffraid side are no mugs, and were unbeaten over the Christmas period, unlike Bangor. Nevertheless, Bangor's hardcore support will be hoping to take something out of this match against a side who are still in the hunt for Europe.
