Ada Fultz Mosley, 83, Wayland, founder and senior pastor of the Zion Deliverance Church at Wayland, wife of Clabe Mosley, died Monday. Services 11 a.m. Thursday, Zion Deliverance Church. Visitation after 1 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements, Hall Funeral Home.
We are sorry to report that our friend to this board Zetta Meade Kitch's sister Minnie Meade LaBresh passed away this morning (july 30). Minnie died at 8:30 a.m at home in Gwinn, Mich. They are taking her home and she'll be at Hall Bros in Martin on Monday and burial well be on Tuesday. Again, Zetta we are so sorry to hear of your loss.

I try to check news from up the holler as often as i can. But today I read something that really made me laugh. It was from someone named Rambis. Who does this clown think he is. If the King had taken 100 shots per game he would have been scoring 175 per game. Yes Rambis Kelly was the best and anyone who ever saw him play could tell you so. I am very proud that I saw every game that Kelly played and he was awsome. Georgene Turner
Lois Hughes Turner Seventy eight year old Lois Hughes Turner of Spring City, Tenn. formerly of Wayland, retired teacher, widow of Hatler Turner, died on Tuesday June 15. Services were held at the Hall Funeral Home on Sat. June 19.

I wish to thank who ever created this website. I really enjoy reading all the news from up the holler. I have discovered that i know most of the people that is writing messages. When I start reading about Kelly it is like I am sitting in the gym yelling my head off for the king. I do have one suggestion- when the words go across the screen for the fight song some one with the smarts to do so should add the music. I think all people with computers would really enjoy hearing the old fight song. Once again thanks to all that has worked on this site. (Webmaster Note: I agree about the Wayland Fight Song. I wanted to add it to the website from day one, but i can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet. I've not looked in a long time. Maybe i will try again. I remember it was called "Washington" something, and that's all i remember is the word Washington. If anyone can find this Midi on the internet please send word. Thanks.)

April "99" Hey Keith;
Good to hear from you. Could not get on line yesterday because
Ryann was in school. I still have to have help you know. Will
try to pass along some info about where we are presently in our
plans for the community center. The man who is doing the replica
of Wayland [in the 40's] is working on it now and already has
the terrian ready. We are gathering pictures to take him so he
can finish soon. He also has several of the 2 story houses made.
This project will be the center piece of the museum. Jerry is
working on getting pictures of all classes in cap and gown. We
have the trophy cases made and are getting the trophies cleaned
and put in. We have bought 6 computers and have ordered computer
tables. Plan to offer some classes, maybe some geanology work,
and to be on line for everyone's use. Bonnie and I are still
trying to collect enough money to buy our jukebox. We found one
in Hamilton and brother Johnny and Becky Honn says it is a good
one. If any one wants to help send to Historical Society in
care of Bonnie Clark. Our fountain furniture is beautiful. The
booths are Blue and Gold and look like a 50's booth. We have
some club tables with stools that are Blue.
We hope to be on line at the building soon. I will send you the
address when we do.
We would like to hear from people by mail also. In the last
issue of the TURNTABLE we asked for everyone to tape or write
some stories about their memories of growing up in Wayland. We
would also like to have copies of any pictures that show things
in town. Everything is gone except some of the houses. We want
to try and get our model as accurate as possible. I'll be glad
to try and answer any questions anyone has. This e-mail

Hey, ALL. Just returned home to Mansfield, OH from a short visit to the heart of the hills in Dry Creek. The Redbuds and Dogwoods along with some beautiful fruit trees were commencing to bloom, making the hills of my memories very beautiful. This is also a plea to those who visit this page. October Skys March 14 From bobf I was reading thru some of the records posted by you and saw where Pikeville beating Oil Springs in '58 was mentioned just kinda brought back some old high school memories, graduated from Oil Springs in 1965 had the same coach Rusty Yates that in 1958 split his team up and won two tournaments the same night. for some reason i cant recall, the championship game for both ended up on the same night. he had some big players at that time, the Blair brothers were 6' 10and 6' 7 and there were two other players around 6'4. We never were much good the following years though. 1966 was the last class to graduate, all the county schools were consolidated. kinda sad.
Feb. 17 Sent Anonymous As well as being the greatest high school basketball athelete that has ever come from the hills and hollers of eastern Kentucky and the world, King Kelly was also known for some other traits as well. He was good natured and friendly, easy to get along with. He was generous. He wasn't an ugly person to look at, being fair of features and complexion.
During the years since 1956 and 1957 many false and dark rumors have abounded about the King. This writer, upon hearing the rumors, shrugged them off as being spread by malicious character assassins. None of the rumors could be accurately applied to the person I had known because they simply didn't fit into his natural and acquired personage makeup. Was so sorry I could not attend Homecoming 1998 due to illness in the family. I think a 1999 New Year's Eve party sounds fantastic. Hello to Lois, Marvin, Patty, Jerry. Haven't gotten a issue of Turntable out for a while. I've been busy because of the holidays. We hope to get it out in Jan. We got a small grant and have been buying furniture for the community center. We will have booths for the fountian by the end of Jan. They will be blue and gold and made like those from the 50's with a gold V down the middle of the back and the rest in blue. We also have stools in blue and chrome coming for the soda fountian bar and for some tall tavern tables. We have purchased office equiptment,office furniture and machines,office supplies,storage shelves,a desk for the front foyer,lamps, computers and printers,and other things I can't think of right now. We have also contracted for a scale model of the town that we hope will be the showcase of our meuseum.

They are the daughter and son of Lisa Gail Robinson of Lexington. Nov 29 Zetta Meade Kitch Update on Minnie Meade LaBresh--Minnie has completed chemo and radiation treatments and her cancer is "stable." She wants to come home for a visit and if everything goes well she will be returning to Kentucky this coming week. I would like to thank all those who have shown such concern for my brother John Slone. He should be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Hopefully he can stay home this time for more than 5 days. For all of you out there who don't have the slighest idea what I am talking about, I will try to explain. My brother John is a diabetic. He has been ill for some time now. On the 12th of this month, John was rushed to Hazard ARH due to vomiting blood. While he was there we found out that John had a heart attack. John was sent to Central Baptist hospital in Lexington where they done heart catherization and placed stents in two of his arteries and used a balloon on another. John was released from Central Baptist on the 20th. But the sad thing is, John had to be took back to the hospital the day before Thanksgiving due to bleeding again from his stomach. The doctors tell us that John might get to come home tomorrow. I ask that all of you pray for him, that God will allow John to get well enough to be put on a kidney and pancreas transplant list soon. Again, I would like to thank all those who have ask about him and showed such wonderful compassion for John. I was and always will be greatly appreciated. Nov 27 Brenda Cable Peek

On Sherril's suggestion, some people are already acting on that.Janie Watkins and Clyde Wallen are starting to plan their class of 55 reunion. We are entering new information into our mailing list,the year of graduation or the year they would have graduated so we can print out classes [with addresses] for any year. So if everyone would send us that info at the Historical Society we would appericate. We will put this request in the newsletter also. We are going to order furniture for the fountian soon. There is also some bad news on a personal note. Marvin has been diagnosed with Sarcoma. He goes to Lexington on Thursday for some future surgery. Need everyone's prayers. My Grandpa Floyd Hancock past away July 10th 1998. He
was the husband of the late Ruth (Craft) Hancock, and
Father of daughter Wanda Hancock and sons Philip
Hancock (my father) and the late Howard Hancock. He
worked many years in the Wayland mines, and drove a
taxi around Wayland on the weekends. He was a good
man and will be sadly missed by his children, five
grand children and eleven great grandchildren. I

problem is..the only way to get there is by car and
one big old snowstorm could blow the whole thing for

The article that I submitted on Child Support
Enforcement was NOT written to "pick on" any certain
person. This is MY views and opinion, I do NOT wish
for any ONE person to think that this is written
about them. I, myself had to deal with Child Support
on both sides of the issue. I know how hard it is to
"scrap up" the money to pay support when you are only
working a minimum wage job. If you are paying support
and feel like it is to big of an amount, go to court
and see if you can get it lowered. If the custodial
parent is harrassing you about payment, contact the
Courts. If the costodial parent is refusing you the
right to see your child, contact the County Attorneys
Office. I know that there is ALWAYS two sides to
every issue. I recieved child support for awhile, and
when I married the second time, my husband had to pay
child support, so like I said, I know what it is like

I have just returned home from the class reunion of 1955. It was so great seeing classmates that I had not seen from May 1955. I would like to take this time to thank the wonderful people of Wayland. Especially the guy that runs the gas station and carry out. He was super nice by supplying us with sandwichs , chips, and pop on friday night. A very special thanks to the ladies of Martin Branch Baptist Church, Ladies your chicken and dumplings were out of this world, so was the cole slaw, green beans and desserts. You have our undying gratitude. The food was wonderful but the main thrill was seeing old class mates. I hope other classes takes advantage of the building at Wayland and help them keep the dream alive. Thanks to Jerry Fultz for having the shirts made up with our class picture on it, That is something that I will treasure as long as I live. Love to all of you wonderful people of good old Wayland. For all of you readers out there, Homer Hickman jr has an outstanding book titled ROCKET BOYS, about him and his friends growing up in a coal camp. This one really takes you back. Also a movie was released called October Skys base on the book. The book or movie will be well worth your time. For anyone raised in or around a coal camp, this book and movie is truly a moving experience.

The homecoming
was a great success and we need to thank those
that prepared for it and were left behind to
clean up our mess. A special thanks to Bonnie
Clark, Jerry Fultz, and Patty Murphy for all
the hard work they did. I hope I didn't leave
anyone out. GOOD JOB !!!!!!!!!!
I would like to ask all of you to write or call your
Congressman and/or State Representative and ask them
to please enforce Child Support Collections. So many
of Kentucky's children are having to live on welfare,
mainly because of DEAD-BEAT PARENTS. Parents who have
been court ordered to pay Child Support, and yet
there are so many who manage to get out of paying it.
We the people of this great state need to let our
Congressman and Representatives know that this should
not be happening. Their is a law stating that if
Child Support is owed in the amount of one (1) year
arreages, then that person shall lose their driver's
liscense, also their can be charges of Contempt of
Court for not following a Judges ruling. The
custodial parents are being forced off welfare for 20
hour work weeks. How can a person support their
children on that. We all know that jobs are hard to
find in this area, why punish the custodial parent
because the absent parent won't pay thier support.
Put the absent parent to work and make them pay their
Child Support obligations. We must do this for the
children, our children are our FUTURE. What kind of
future can they have if they are taught that it
doesn't matter what our Court Systems rule, you can
get away with anything, if you want. I thnak you for
your time.

her sister Minnie Meade LaBresh age 53, who
attended Wayland High School in the early
60's, and now lives in Gwinn, Michigan, has
been diagnosed with lung cancer. She needs the
