LISA LEWIS

Updates

FEBRUARY 6 Lisa was interviewed on WBAN earlier this week as she prepared for her upcoming fight against Jessica Rakoczy at The Palace February 19th. Lisa and Jessica will square off for the IBA lightweight title. Check out the interview HERE.

October 10 Here are some post-fight comments from Lisa on her win over Blanca Luna last week at The Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore:

"She was a good opponent.....I thought I had her in the 2nd round, though. But, she held her composure in the 3rd."

"She was ranked #11 and she trained out of Las Vegas, so I expected a good fight and it was."

"As far as the decision, I felt I won a Majority decision. It was a close fight, but not close enough to make a Split decision."

"I'll be back in training Tuesday, since I have to work on Monday. There is a another fight in Lemoore in December. Wes and I have talked about fighting an 8 rounder, we'll see."

Pictures from the Blanca Luna fight by Fightnews.com photographer Marty Solis are posted in the Photos section.

October 4 The Li'l Warrior earned her sixth pro win on Thursday night with a majority decision over Blanca Luna. With the win Lisa improved to 6-7 and has now won six of her last nine fight.

Local Fox Network television station KMPH Channel 26 showed highlights of Lisa's win over Blanca Luna on the 10 O'Clock News the night of the fight.

July 16 Lisa will be fighting Jessica Rakoczy next week on the ESPN2 Tuesday Night Fights card. The fight will be at a contracted weight of 139 pounds. Word is that ESPN2, after last week's Mia St. John - Jessica Mohs outing, demanded a....uh....more serious women's fight this week. I don't know for certain at this point that Lewis-Rakoczy will air but at the very least the network wants to leave nothing to chance and avoid another stinker if it does make the telecast. Rakoczy was already scheduled and ESPN2 wanted a legitimate opponent and hopefully an action fight. They're getting the Li'l Warrior. Good choice.

April 18- Jessica Rakoczy pulled out of tonight's schedule fight against Lisa due to illness but Layla McCarter stepped right in. The weigh-in was held Thursday afternoon and the resulst are as follows: Lisa - 133, Layla - 134. The ESPN2 Friday Night Fights card at The Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore starts at 7PM.

April 3- Lisa Lewis put out a public challenge to Christine Rodriguez for a chance to avenge a loss that took place last summer at The Radisson. The challenge appeared on WBAN and also stated that the Li'l Warrior expects big things in 2003, welcoming a number of big name fighters to get it on in the ring. The first name on the list, Jessica "Ragin'" Rakoczy, answered the call and it's Lisa vs. Jessica on April 18th at The Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore, CA. The fight will be aired on the ESPN2 show. To see Lisa's public challenge go HERE.

March 3- The Li'l Warrior scored a dominant victory over Mikee Stafford at Selland Arena on February 28th. Lisa was in control from the beginning, forcing her way inside and rocking Stafford with repeated right hands to the head. Stafford got her shots in along the way but not nearly to the extent that Lisa did. Referee Marty Denkin stopped the bout at the :46 mark of round four. That makes Lisa's record 5-6, winning five of her last seven fights.

October 29- Lisa was signed to fight #3 lightweight Jessica Rakoczy at The Palace on November 22nd but illness has forced the Li'l Warrior to pull out. A bad case of bronchitis had Lisa at the doctor's office yesterday and the prescribed rest to get healthy again is going to cut into the training schedule too much. For that reason, Lisa won't be fighting on November 22nd. An opponent for Rakoczy will be named soon.

September 26- Here are the links to two stories on the Table Mountain fight card on which Lisa dominated Shakura Witherspoon over six rounds:

FRESNO BEE

FIGHTNEWS.COM

September 23- Lisa overwhelmed Shakura Witherspoon yesterday afternoon to win a unanimous decision. The Li'l Warrior improves to 4-6. More to come on this fight.

September 18- Lisa's opponent this Sunday afternoon will be Shakurah Witherspoon. Shakurah fought Jenifer Alcorn twice recently, going the distance the first time. The show is promoted by Goosen-Tutor and takes place at Table Mountain Casino in Friant, just north of Fresno. THIS IS AN AFTERNOON CARD, THE SHOW STARTS AT 2 PM ON SUNDAY! Get tickets online at www.tickets.com. Here's the scheduled card:

Tim Witherspoon (55-11-1) vs. Lou Savarese (42-4)
Ricardo Vargas (32-9-3) vs. Trinidad Mendoza (19-3)
Cedric Boswell (16-0) vs. Melvin Foster (23-11-1)
Rudy Dominguez (4-0) vs. Edgar Sabal (5-5)
Lisa Lewis (3-6) vs. Shakurah Witherspoon (9-30-1)
Elias Mingucha (0-0) vs. Luis Garcia (2-0)

September 12- The rematch with Christine Rodriguez may or may not happen on 9/22 and there seems to be little headway being made at this time. Undeterred, Lisa continues to train her butt off.

"I'm still training like I'm going to fight somebody," says Lisa. "It doesn't change how I train."

That kind of focus will serve the Li'l Warrior well as the behind-the-scenes stuff plays out. Trainer Wes Hodgins has conversations on a daily basis with Goosen-Tutor over this date and it still hasn't become clear who Lisa is fighting. Stay tuned, she's ready for anything and in a great state of mind.

August 20- For about a month Lisa has been out of the spotlight, taking a brief break after her tough decision loss to Christine Rodriguez in July. But Lisa is back and the news is all good. First, she has a rematch with Christine scheduled for September 22nd at Table Mountain. Second, she got back in the ring today for some spirited sparring with Tania Gomez of Exeter.

What makes today's sparring session special is that everyone involved felt good about what they saw. Gomez is a strong southpaw who campaigns as an amateur and boxed well in losing a tough decision to Fresno's Valerie Lopes on June 15th in this same ring. Lisa got some very good work done over three rounds.

Since the fight with Rodriguez at the Radisson Lisa has taken a new approach to her training, and it is typical of the Li'l Warrior. She has taken it upon herself to step up her workouts, over and above the grueling sessions that trainer Tony Valencia puts her through. Today, she said she felt great.

Manager Wes Hodgins was very happy with what he saw in the ring today. Lisa dug to the body as he requested, stuck and moved to the side and worked her way off the ropes. Lisa, meanwhile, promised to get her revenge on September 29th. The judges gave Rodriguez the benefit of the doubt in July. Lisa doesn't want to leave any doubt this time around.

Pictures of today's sparring session have been posted in the Photos section.

July 18- Christine Rodriguez won a majority decision tonight over Lisa at the Radisson in downtown Fresno. After four very exciting rounds the Li'l Warrior came up short on the judges' scorecards by scores of 38-38, 39-37 and 39-37.

The fight was the best of the night and everyone in the crowd agreed on that. Rodriguez did good work from the outside as Lisa worked her way in. When Lisa got inside, as she did every round, there were wild exchanges in which she landed heavy shots with both hands. Christine was tough and took the shots well, firing back.

We all know Lisa's style and that Christine's shots from the outside didn't do any damage to one of the best chins in women's boxing. When they got on the inside Rodriguez' head was snapped back repeatedly by heavy shots. Unfortunately for Lisa the judges most likely went by the criteria of who controlled each round for the longest period of time. Lisa was not rewarded for the big shots she landed in close as much as Christine was for flicking out punches from the outside while Lisa worked her way in.

Lisa was very disappointed after this fight and it is understandable for a number of reasons. While judges evaluate what is going on and how much damage is being done there are two things that they consistently haven't recognized when Lisa fights. First, she hardly ever gets hit flush. While the opponent is reaching out and throwing punches, it looks like Lisa is getting hit when she is really rolling off of them or taking them on the gloves.

Second, Lisa has been hurt in a professional boxing match very few times. She does her work, she trains, she spars with male boxers bigger than her, she gets in great shape and prepares for battle. Then, on fight night, Lisa enters the ring ready for war. The punches she takes are of little consequence to her, normally, as she works her way in to do real damage.

Another factor, and I am not speaking for Lisa Lewis at all, this is clearly the opinion of the webmaster guy, but what the _____ is up with not being able to get a close decision in her own hometown in front of a crowd that is screaming for her? Hometown decisions aren't something to bank on, and in most cases they're unjust. I can't even say for sure that Lisa should have been the winner on this fight because I see the things stated above and understand that judges don't. But you shouldn't have to leave town to get a break.

Good fight tonight, as always with Lisa. When I was putting all my crap away just before leaving I overheard a conversation behind me where they were talking about the card and the best fight. "Lisa's fights are always the best fights," was the final decision.

The Li'l Warrior made all of her fans proud again tonight and that's not just a bunch of trite crap. When Lisa fights it is a big event that involves a lot of people who are rooting for her from their hearts. She never lets us down. Sometimes the judges do, and a couple times she hasn't done everything she's capable of in there. But with boxing, and especially with women's boxing, the record isn't everything. Out of a crowd of hundreds or thousands, three people often decide what happened. So there you go.

Congratulations to Lisa for a great effort.

July 17- Lisa and Christine weighed in at Club Habanos in north Fresno and both came in under the contractual 135 +/-. Lisa weighed in at 133 1/2, while Christine Rodriguez weighed in at 133 1/4. Both of them were very loose and neither had very much to say about the fight other than they are ready. Christine said she is ready for the full four round distance if necessary and is still in good shape after having fought on June 18th against Julie Crockett. Lisa is in good shape as always and is ready to make the fight a tough one for the out-of-towner. Check it out tomorrow night, show starts at 6:30 PM at The Radisson.

July 16- Pictures of Lisa working out today have been added to the PHOTOS section. Also, Lisa looked great today and says she's ready for Thursday night's four-rounder with Christine Rodriguez at The Radisson in downtown Fresno. The show starts at 6:30 PM and doors open at 5:30. For tickets call TKO Promotions at 559-276-2918 or pick them up at the Radisson, Ringside Gym, Mexico Theater and Paul's Barber Shop in Selma.

June 24- Lisa's next opponent, Christine Rodriguez, lost a four-round decision against Julie Crockett on June 18th. Rodriguez dropped Crockett in the first round but ended up losing on all three scorecards to fall to 1-3. She'll next step into the ring at the Radisson in downtown Fresno against Lisa on Thursday July 18th.

Lisa, meanwhile, is very happy with her training and is in great shape as she goes for her fourth win when she faces Rodriguez. She has been studying films of Rodriguez and is working very hard to get ready for a tough fight. After working the mitts with Tony Valencia today Lisa noted that Rodriguez is very dangerous as she sometimes throws punches from unconventional angles. Despite the 1-3 record that Christine brings into this fight, Lisa knows all too well how decieving a fighter's record can be. And despite the losing record, Rodriguez has managed to put more than one opponent on the canvas.

This knowledge has helped drive Lisa to get in top shape once again. She's looking forward to fighting in front of her local fan base and will continue to stay busy after the July 18th fight with Rodriguez.

The California welterweight title fight between Sebastian Valdez and Agustine Caballero is the main event on the card dubbed "Unfinished Business." Also scheduled to fight are heavyweight Manuel Quezada and Fresno's Rudy Cruz. Former IBF featherweight champion Hector Lizzaraga will be on hand signing autographs as well. Tickets are available at the Ringside Gym, The Radisson Hotel, Paul's Barber Shop in Selma, and the Mexico Theater, as well as the TKO Box Office which you can reach at 559-276-2918.

June 7- Lisa's opponent for the Radisson card on July 18th is, in fact, Christine Rodriguez (1-2). More information on her can be found here. In other information on the fight card, Agustine Caballero will now be headlining, not Hector Lizarraga. Agustine is facing Sebastian Valdez. Gabriel Cruz (3-0) is scheduled to face Joe Mendoza (2-2). Manuel Quezada (3-1)is listed against TBA, as are Rudy Cruz (0-0) and Armando Alvarez (0-2).

May 22- I posted yesterday that Lisa's opponent on July 18th is Christine Rodriguez. Today I saw on boxingschedule.tripod.com that the opponent is Janae Romero. Hmmm. I might have jumped the gun yesterday. I'll have the confirmed opponent up here as soon as I can.

May 21- Lisa is scheduled to fight on July 18th at The Radison in downtown Fresno against Christine Rodriguez. The card is also scheduled to feature Hector Lizarraga and Gabe Cruz at this time. More info on Lisa's bout and the entire card as it becomes available.

April 30- After a stellar run in the amateur ranks, Lisa Lewis has had eight professional fights that can really be broken down into two different pro careers. Lewis started out 0-4 against very tough competition with at least two of those losses of the "questionable" variety.

Lisa then went on to win her next two fights and last Friday night's stoppage of Erica Sugar was the Li'l Warrior's third win in four fights. The only loss over that stretch came in January to Jenifer Alcorn, the new WIBF lightweight champion.

This latest win was a convincing one as Sugar couldn't answer the bell for the fourth round. And Lisa saw it coming.

"The middle of the first round she started to breathe heavily and I knew then that I had her beat," said Lewis. "It was just a matter of time before they had to stop the fight."

Like all of Lisa's opponents since turning pro Sugar wasn't a pushover. "I got to give Erica some credit though," Lisa said. "She took some hard shots to the body and head, and still she hung in there."

Before the rough start in the professional ranks, Lisa was very accustomed to victories like this one. After having such a successful amateur career it seemed reasonable to expect more of the same as a professional.

Looking back on the transition Lisa said "Actually, I didn't know what to expect. But, I didn't expect my record to be the way it is. I wish it was 6-2....and maybe it should be, but that's another story."

Indeed it is. The win Friday night made a big difference for Lisa coming off the loss to Alcorn. " Yes I was very anxious to put that last fight behind me. It felt good to win again!"

Lisa's record now stands at 3-5 but it's been over a year since she lost a close decision to Karen Martin at the Rainbow Ballroom that left her winless at 0-4. Since then she's beaten Sosadea Razo, Bambi Bertoncello and Erica Sugar, with the decision loss to Alcorn in Bakersfield. Lisa Lewis is well on her way to proving that the record doesn't tell the whole story in her case.

April 27- Lisa battered Erica Sugar for three rounds last night at Table Mountain Casino and won by a stoppage after the third round. The TKO3 victory raises Lisa's record to 3-5 and has now won three of her last four fights. More on the fight to come.

April 2- Lisa will be fighting on April 26 at Table Mountain against Erica Sugar. The card, Rumble At The Mountain, also features Juan Carlos Rubio and Mia St. John. After this fight Lisa's next match will be May 10 at The Raddison Hotel in downtown Fresno. Check back here for more information.

February 25- Lisa's been back in the gym for a couple of weeks and is looking forward to her next fight. There is talk of a fight in April here in the Fresno area but nothing definite at this point. Having seen Lisa at the Ringside Gym several times over the last couple of weeks she's in good spirits and enjoying her workouts as she looks to put together some more wins.

JANUARY 16- Results of tonight's weigh-in: Both fighters had no problems with weight and looked to be in very good shape. Lisa: 133, Jennifer: 133 3/4. The two camps sat right next to each other but each maintained a business-like posture. Jennifer had her husband Brad and her manager Gary Sullenger with her as well as a male boxer and one other person. Lisa arrived with Wes and then Babe's sister and her family joined them. Jennifer greeted Wes when she arrived, then later, I believe Jennifer said hi to Lisa. Not much news in those little happenings, and certainly no shenanigans from either side. Both girls are in shape, both are in Bakersfield on business and all that matters is what happens in the ring Thursday night. Very professional for both sides.

JANUARY 14- Lisa's winding down her training camp for Thursday night's fight with Jennifer Alcorn. Wes is very pleased with her preparation and Lisa is very eager to finally get in the ring for the fight she has wanted for so long.

The weigh-in will take place Wednesday at 5 PM at Woody's in Bakersfield, on the corner of Mohawk and Truxton, just a couple of blocks west of the Centennial Garden. All that's left after that is fight night, Thursday January 17th at 7:30 PM.

Jennifer predicted a knockout win on radio station B95 while Lisa has opted to do her talking in the ring. The fight has obviously drawn a lot of interest in Fresno and some of Lisa's fellow firefighters will be carpooling to Bakersfield along with a rooting section from the communications department of the Fresno PD and Fire Dept. The Garden will be rocking on Thursday night.

Check the PHOTOS section for shots of Lisa's workout today.

DECEMBER 20- Wes Hodgins reported today that Lisa looked great last night after a few so-so days of training. Lisa's in excellent shape now and Wes has her right on track to be at full strength on January 17th.

In news related to the fight, Oscar De La Hoya has bought out Roy Englebrecht and is taking over the promoter's scheduled events immediately. Englebrecht had around 30 shows scheduled for 2002, including the Fight Night At The Garden series shows in Bakersfield. The January 17th card now, ostensibly, is being promoted by Golden Boy Productions LLC. What does that mean? Nobody knows at this time. Roy always put on first-class shows so who knows what the De La Hoya camp has to offer. We'll keep you posted if anything of significance comes of it.

**********

DECEMBER 12- With the fight now made the Lewis-Alcorn match is getting a lot of media attention. Anthony Galaviz of the Fresno Bee has been at Ringside each of the last two days and the local TV stations will be showing up shortly. How does Lisa feel about all this?

"I'm very excited about the fight and feel very confident," she says. "All the preparation and the media coverage even makes it that much more exciting."

But don't worry about any of this causing a distraction for Lisa. She has hoped for this opportunity for a long time and she knows what to do with it.

"My training and focus on the fight is much more intense since this is a MAJOR highlight in my boxing career. And, I hope that with this fight my boxing career will start to take off and make a huge turn around."

Keep checking in here and at InTheCorner.Net for all the details on the January 17th fight, including training camp photos.

DECEMBER 6- Jennifer Alcorn's team has finally agreed to a fight between Jennifer and Lisa. The long overdue matchup of Fresno-area fighters will take place on Thursday January 17th in Bakersfield at the Centennial Gardens. Needless to say, this event will receive EXTENSIVE coverage here and on www.inthecorner.net.Stay tuned!

NOVEMBER 26- Here's some information/gossip/rumours along with a dose of editorial commentary from mr. webmaster here. Hanging out at the Ringside Gym the last few days I've heard any number of possible opponents for Lisa as she goes for her third pro win. Here's what I know at this point.

Lisa, obviously, is ready to fight anyone anytime and several factors fell into place that made it look like a matchup with Mia St. John was possible. The weights are right, Lisa's record looks deceptively inviting (we know the real score) and Mia's people have an agreement with The Palace for a fight in the spring of 2002. As good as all that looks for a potential fight between "The Knockout" and "The Li'l Warrior," business is business, especially in boxing. Mia just suffered an embarassing loss, but worse yet for Lisa, St. John got the word, apparently from the Karen Martin camp, that the 2-4 record isn't what it appears to be. Mia, a So-Cal native, knows that anybody who gave Karen a tough time is a serious problem.

Aside from the Mia storyline it all gets fuzzy. Trainr Wes Hodgins has been on the line with The Palace, Sal Blanco of TKO Promotions and others with a few different scenarios being discussed. A title fight against one of Lisa's amateur opponents has been mentioned. Liz Mueller has been mentioned as a possible opponent.

The juiciest rumor involves Jennifer Alcorn. The two local fighters could possibly face off in Bakersfield at one of Roy Englebrecht's Fight Night At The Garden shows. Jennifer just made her debut in Bakersfield with a decision win over Carla Witherspoon to run her record to 9-0.

Needless to say, Lisa would love to fight Jennifer here, there or anywhere. Alcorn has been carefully managed while racking up blowout wins and posting a perfect record. Lisa, meanwhile, has been willing to take on the best of competition but the competition has been a little reluctant. And when she has gotten fights, it's common knowledge that two and possibly three of her losses were bad decisions.

Wes was paid a visit today by "Woody" Woodward of the California State Athletic Commision. In the course of the conversation Woody indicated to Wes that he would like to see Jennifer step up the level of her competition and the two went on to speculate on a Lewis-Alcorn matchup.

I've done my share of speculating on such a matchup and I imagine the Alcorn camp has too. That's probably enough to make it a real longshot. As carefully as Jennifer's team has managed her to this point it is hard to imagine they would want to put her in the ring with Lisa, who is at the top of her game right now. Always a relentless trainer and tireless worker, Lisa is in especially good condition these days. After a ferocious session of working the mitts with Tony Valencia this afternoon, Tony and Wes discussed how her power has increased dramatically lately. Both said their arms and hands were beaten up by her in recent sessions and Tony said Lisa mentioned that she was doing some strength training on her own. It's working, according to Wes and Tony.

So who wants to face an even stronger Lisa Lewis? Unfortunately, it's probably the same old song on that one. By all indications, whoever she faces next is going to get worse than what Bambi Bertoncello got in Lemoore earlier this year. December 6th at The Palace, in Bakersfield, wherever. Lisa's fired up and ready to go, she just needs a dance partner. They can run but they can't hide. During Lisa's periods of inactivity in the ring, the action is always hot and heavy behind the scenes as Wes tries to get her a fight. He's predicting a watershed year for the Li'l Warrior in 2002. Let's hope he's right.

**********

OCTOBER 2- As far as future fights Lisa won't be fighting in Stockton but is scheduled to fight in early December. Details will be posted here when things get firmed up.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, I asked Lisa for her perspective, especially as a firefighter. Here's what she had to say:

"We took a terrible hit by those terrorist especially the firefighters, police and EMS crews....I wish I was there to help, but although, friends and family would have disagreed. Us firefighters are different breed of people....Everyone else runs out of burning buildings while we run right in. I'm sure if you would ask any firefighter if they would do it all over again, everyone of them would say yes."

That should answer anybody's questions about how Lisa can fight so hard and give so much effort in the ring. As much as we all love boxing, everything takes a backseat to harsh reality sometimes. Like all emergency personnel, Lisa faces harsh reality more than most of us, risking her own well-being to save lives and property. Best wishes to all emergency personnel at this time and a little reality check for the rest of us.

**********

SEPTEMBER 17- When fight night arrived September 6th Lisa was left without an opponent as some of the usual roadblocks appeared in the days leading up to the show at The Palace. With the momentum that Lisa had built up she definitely didn't want to stray from the master plan of fighting every month as she and trainer/manager Wes Hodgins have worked toward.

How disappointed was the Li'l Warrior to have her fight cancelled? "I was very disappointed," she said. "I would have liked to have kept the momentum going...the support of the fans, possibility of gaining more recognition, and of course the winning streak."

It was a tough pill to swallow, especially after the high of her big win over Bambi Bertoncello on July 29th where Lisa's enthusiastic fan base led the Palace audience in supporting a near-flawless effort.

But while Lisa's opportunity to notch another win in front of a local audience went by the boards, she isn't skipping a beat. Lisa Lewis may have a demanding full time job as a firefighter but her approach to boxing is that of a true professional. Training to "peak" at the right time is an art form and a cancellation could be a real setback. But Lisa doesn't get caught up in that and the focus is now on the next fight.

"As far as it affecting my training, it doesn't help," she laments. "But, these situations are expected to happen. So, I treat it as if I had a fight and I take some time off, not much, but enough to start training for another fight or just to maintain until I get another offer."

At this time Lisa's next fight is up in the air. She could fight on a card in Stockton in early October or The Palace some other time in the fall. Stay tuned for all the latest on Lisa's quest for win number three.

**********

AUGUST 23- Mikee Stafford will not be Lisa's next opponent afterall. Stafford suffered a cut that will keep her out of action on September 6th at The Palace. The new opponent isn't certain at this time but it appears that Sosadea Razo is one of two fighters being considered. Stay tuned.

Also, previous opponent Karen Martin was interviewed in the latest issue of Southern California Fight Scene. When asked about the only opponent she was unable to knock out, Karen had this to say, "It was a great fight. Her name was Lisa Lewis. She was bigger and I went up to her weight (133) and found out that wasn't a great idea. But it was cool, I won."

**********

AUGUST 17- There are more action shots of Lisa's win over Bambi Bertoncello up in the PHOTOS section. These photos were taken by Jesus Sanchez, a fine photographer from the Bay Area who has traveled to the central valley for several recent fight cards. If you like Jesus' work you can let him know by emailing him here.

**********

AUGUST 9- Lisa's next opponent will be Mikee Stafford of Los Angeles on September 6th at The Palace in Lemoore. That date was supposed to see a rematch between Lisa and Sosadea Razo but the negotiations fell through and Stafford will now be the opponent.

If you haven't seen it already the full story on the 7/29 fights at Lemoore, including pics of Lisa's fight with Bambi Bertoncello can be found here.

JULY 29- The Li'l Warrior won her second straight fight with a dominant effort tonight against Bambi "Too Sweet" Bertoncello to earn a 4-round unanimous decision. Lisa overwhelmed her game opponent at the start and never looked back. When Bambi was able to put together some offense, usually from distance, Lisa was always able to fire back and get her opponent in trouble. Bambi didn't have the hand speed to deal with Lisa's relentless attack and spent much of the time with her back to the ropes after having been driven there from the center of the ring. As always, Lisa's hard work in the gym was a huge advantage as her conditioning allowed her to press the action for all four rounds. Check out the pictures in the PHOTOS section.

JULY 16- I've got a few more pictures up in the PHOTOS section from Lisa's July 12 sparring session. Keo is the sparring partner and the third man in the ring is Lisa's trainer, Wes Hodgins.

JULY 12- In the PHOTOS section you will find shots from Lisa's sparring session today with Fresno kickboxer Keo S. Lisa often works out against male sparring partners and Keo has helped her get in many rounds of quality work.

Also, Lisa received a shipment of T-shirts today from CRSpecialties of Fresno. To get your own "Lisa Lewis - Li'l Warrior" Tee contact us here.

JULY 7- Trainer Wes Hodgins is very pleased with Lisa's training for the upcoming fight in Lemoore. She's in excellent condition and has done a number on numerous male sparring partners, according to Hodgins. He expects her to peak soon and be in top shape for the fight against Bambi.

JUNE 25- Lisa lost a big part of her team when cornerman Nestor Chacon passed away on June 21st. Nes was a fixture on the Fresno boxing scene and will be missed by all who knew him.

JUNE 19- After the July 29th fight with Bambi, Lisa will return to The Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore three weeks later for a rematch with Sosadea Razo. The first Lewis-Razo fight in Temecula on April 27th was a barnburner that saw Lisa notch her first pro win.

JUNE 13- Lisa's opponent for July 29 in Lemoore has been changed to Bambi "Too Sweet" Bertoncello (3-3, 1 KO.) Bambi is coming off of a decision loss to Susan Howard in San Francisco on May 22.

MAY 22- Lisa has signed to fight a rematch with Sosadea Razo at The Palace in Lemoore on July 29. Lisa earned her first pro win last month against the Razo, who was making her professional debut. The rematch looks to be action packed as Lisa's straight-ahead style matches up well with Razo's similarly confrontational posture.
