Towson Generals News and Notes
January 22 - Towson coach Bev Snyder collected her 400th win with a victory over the Dundalk Owls on the road. For her career, Snyder has a record of 400-92, including three county titles, five regional titles, and the only state title in Towson Girls' Basketball history, which came last year. For the season, the Generals are 9-1, with their loss coming at the hands of the Milford Mill Millers on January 6th.

February 6 - Towson wrestler John Narlis collected career win number 100 during the Generals' match with the Parkville Knights. For the season, Narlis is 20-1. He also defeated his opponent from River Hill earlier in the day. Narlis is the defending county and regional champion. Narlis placed third in the state championships last year as well. Narlis has now set Towson's career wins record with those 100 wins.

February 6 - The Towson Generals Varsity and JV Cheerleaders placed third in their respective divisions in the Baltimore County Winter Cheerleading Competition at Towson University. WIth a point total of 208, the Varsity qualified to participate in the Regional Competition at Dundalk Community College on February 20.

February 21 - The MPSSAA Varsity Basketball Tournament Draw took place this afternoon in Montgomery County. For the third straight year, the Towson Generals Boys and Girls Basketball teams received a first round bye. The Generals earned a number two seed. They will play the winner of the Overlea-Edgewood matchup on Monday, March 1st. Game time and place will be determined on Saturday after the first round games. February 26 - At Overlea, the Generals of Varsity Wrestling took place in the Class 2A-1A Regional Championships. Four wrestlers placed for the Generals, including John Narlis with a second place finish at 112 pounds, Andy Norris with a second place finish at 125 pounds, Boh Myers with a fourth place finish at heavyweight, and Lamont Watters in the 152 pound class. All four wrestlers will move on to the State Championships at Western Maryland College on Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th.

March 1 - The Towson Generals opened the playoffs with a split of a doubleheader against the Ramd of Edgewood. In the first game, Sam Young scored 23 and Dave Wille added 16, but it was not enough as the Generals lost, 54-50. The Generals ended their season with an 8-12 record. In the later game with the girls, Towson defeated Edgewood to move on the regional semifinals. They will play Lansdowne on Thursday in the Towson Arena. Game time is set for 7:00.

March 4 - The Towson Generals are one step away from returning to UMBC. Tonight, the Lady Generals defeated Lansdowne, 55-48. Towson came from behind with 25 from Lindsay Buchanan and a clutch shot from Julie Gwiazdowski to end the third quarter. The Generals now face North East, who defeated North Harford earlier tonight. Game time is set for 1:00 at the Towson Arena.

March 6 - The run is over. Today, North East defeated the Girls Varsity Basketball team in the regional final, 61-38. Senior Katie Davis scored 27 points, pulled down 18 rebounds, and blocked 6 Towson shots for the Lady Indians. The Lady Generals finish the season with a record of 18-5.

March 12 - It was announced today that four Towson basketball players have been selected to play in the 1999 Baltimore County Senior All Star Classic on February 19th. On the girls side, Julie Gwiazdowski and Lindsay Buchanan have been selected to represent Towson. For the boys, who finished the season at 8-12, Dave Wille and Sam Young will represent the Generals. The games will take place at Essex Community College, starting with the girls at 6:00 and the boys at 8:00. Tickets are available from Towson athletic director Rick Eshmont.
