Football time is here! It’s been another! exciting year, getting ready for this one game we hold for the benefit of our Hospitals and under the Al Malaikah Banner. June 26 is our big day, and we trust that you have saved this on your calendar for what is shaping up as a fantastic day, concluding what should be the best game yet. between the pick of grid graduates, of California high schools, and their top counterpart from Texas.

So far the game score is 4 to 0, favoring California and we know that there has been a lot of talk. and preparation in Texas in their hope, to break into the Win Column. Be sure to get your tickets now for this win-Win-All around event.

YOU win, with the best of tailgate parties; see many friends, make new ones, be proud of your membership in Al Malaikah because of what you do. On top of' that, see probably one of the best games in California. . YOUR TEMPLE wins, producing a profit for Shriners Hospital for Children, plus widespread exposure on tele-vision-with YOU there in your Fez. · PlAYERS win, for they get to play in a, very prestigious game and get a coveted trophy as a result It builds their careers, for their play in this game is most carefully scouted. And in visiting our Hospital and seeing first-hand what they are playing for, they become good ambassadors-and they never forget .that experience. · OUR KIDS IN THB HOSPITAL win, for they know their Shriners are supporting them and their hopes and dreams through the game. We often take our Fez for granted, but just ask the parents of a critically burned child what the Fez means and what you really are doing.

So put down the paper, turn off the TV, tell your E-mail friends you'll be back later. (0r why not invite them to the, game?), and just carpool to a really fun day with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The Banquet

The Shrine Football Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet to which Nobles family, friends and general guests are most welcome has a new look, this year. The Thursday, June 24 program starts at 1 p.m. with local tour, and behind-the- scenes Cal-Tex football practice followed by pre-banquet social hour at 5 0 clock Dinner at 6 will 1)e catered by the same Outback Restaurant that proved so popular at the football banquet at the Temple in, 1997. The celebrity guest spea:ker is a former Shrine stand-out player, and sought after public speaker, John Papadakis of Papadakis Tavern in San Pedro. He was team captain in" the:Shrine North~South All Star game in the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1968, and went on to become the Most Inspirational Player of the Year at U.S.C.

The events will be held at the Crystal Cathedral’s Rancho Capistrano Conference Center and Resort, located 29251 Camino, Capistrano,, in San Juan Capistrino'. Banquet tickets are $15 each and are available at the door or in advance from the Shrine Football Office at the Temple, Jefferson Blvd. at Royal St., LA

Game Day Time Line

Cal-Tex Game Day on Saturday, June 26 starts early at Cerritos College campus in Norwalk,' with the Shrine all-star Challenge, with ten teams competing on two soccer fields, hosted by Nike. The games will go from 9am. to3 Pm.

The grand inter-state rivalry that marks the start of the 1999 football season ~ take place at Falcon Stadium on the ball teams' will arrive at Falcon Stadium at I p.m. and commence field warm-ups at 2:30.
Hospitality, including tailgating RVs, closes down at 3 O’clock for the day's official Opening Ceremonies. During the ensuing ,1 1/4 hours, there will be a prep cheerleader competition. with awards to the victors.
. A sea of Fezzes as appropriate to a Mystic extravaganza, as adorned by Shrine Units, Shrine clubs and individual Nobles, will top the march-in under direction of Al Malaikah's Commandant of Units A. Roy Coggins. They will be organized in the area of the south Gate at 3:30 p.m. After the teams complete warm-ups at 4 p.m., the pre-game activities begin: The march-in will include the Lakewood All-Star Band, the, Shriners and the Cheerleaders. At 4.41 the Texas Team and Coaches will be introduced, followed by introduction of the California Team and Coaches. The Color Guard will enter the stadium from the South goal posts and parade to the 45 yard line for the National Anthem, to be sung by Noble Dr. William B. Stewart Jr.
· Following introduction of the game officials and mid-field coin-toss, the kick-off will start the fifth California--Texas All-Star Game and the 1999 "Poster Girl" will represent fellow patients from Shriners Hospitals/Los Angeles. The eight-minute interlude will conclude with presentation of awards to Shrine Football Hall of Fame recipients, after which the Norwalk All-Star Band will jazz up the proceedings, pending start of the games second half.

At Half - Time A rapid action sequence will unfold at mid-field during half-time at the Cal-Tex game, as announced by the Al Malaikah Football office. Following introduction of the Al Malaikah Divan, the importance of the game to the Shrine and Shriners Hospitals will be highlighted in brief remarks by Imperial Oriental Guide Dr. Burton Oien, representing the Imperial Potentate. Al Malaikah's illustrious Sir Gene Moore will follow briefly,
For RVS

Football Weekend will be attractive for RV Nobles, who will be "dry camping" adjacent to the west side of Falcon Stadium. A $10 fee covers parking the entire weekend, and all proceeds Will go to Shriners Hospital for Children, Los Angeles. Saturday, June 19

(a.m.) Pick up California Coaches and players at the airports and homes and transport to football camp at Rancho Capistrano.

10:00 a.m. Start medical and equipment processing for Calif. Team

Noon Lunch.

1:30p.m. Pick up Texas coaches and players at LAX and transport to Rancho Capistrano

2:30 p.m. Start Medical and equipment processing for Texas team.

4:00 p.m. Coaches and Officials meeting at Rancho Capistrano.

6:00 p.m. Dinner at Camp.

Sunday, June 20
Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Camp. Morning & Afternoon practice per Coaches' schedule Team photos.

Monday, June 21
Breakfast, lunch and dinner at camp. (Dinner by In and Out) Practices per coaches’ schedule. Trip to Capistrano Beach

Tuesday, June 22 Breakfast at camp, followed by trip to Shriners Hospital for Children, Los Angeles.
10:30- Players, patients and media at Shriners Hospital.
3:15 p.m. Crystal Cathedral (1 ½ hour tour).
4:30 p~. Texas BBQ Dinner
5:30 p.m. Knott’s.
9:30p.m. Teams return to Camp, Rancho Capistrano.

Wednesday, June 23
Breakfast Lunch and dinner at camp. Practices per Coaches’ Schedule.

Thursday, June 24
Breakfast, Lunch at camp. Annual Football Awards Banquet hosted by Outback. Morning and afternoon practices, as set by Coaches.,

Friday, June 25
Breakfast, lunch and dinner at camp. Dinner hosted by Alex BBQ Morning and afternoon practices as set by Coaches.

Saturday, June 26
9:00 a.m. Breakfast and lunch at camp. Shrine All-Star
3:00 ~m. Challenge on 2 soccer Fields. Ten teams.
1:00p.m. Teams leave Camp for Cerritos College. Norwalk All -Star Band arrives at Falcon Stadium, Cerritos, College
3:00 p.m. Pre-game activities.
5:00 p.m. Kick off. After game both teams will remain on the field for 15 minutes. Texas Team will depart for Dinner at Frantones thence to Rancho Capistrano. California team members released.

Sunday, June 27
6:00 a.m. Breakfast for Texas team at camp.
7:30 a.m. Texas team departs for airport for flight home.
