I have watched Jaycie doing gymnastics for a long time. She is a very graceful and beautiful gymnast to watch. She amazed me at the 1996 Nationals when she almost beat Shannon Miller. Who would ever know that just a few years before, Jaycie was ready to quit gymnastics. She was 24th in the Juniors, and was not confident. She decided it was time to switch gyms. She moved to Cincinnati Gymnasics Academy. She liked the gym very much. After the move she improved on her gymnastics greatly. She improved so much that she made the US Olympic Team. She and her best friend Amanda Borden made it together. It's hard to imagine Jaycie with little confidence, isn't it??

LETTER FROM JAYCIE:

Hello!

Thanks for writing to me! I'm really sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Traveling on the tour, keeping up with school work and answering fan mail keeps me pretty busy. I'll try to tell you a little about me and what I'm up to and hopefully I will answer most of your questions.
I was born on September 26, 1979, in Greenfield, Indiana. I started gymnastics at age 4 and at age 11 I moved up to the elite level. My goal was to be the best that I could be, and to do that I had to move to another gym to train. I spent two years in Arizona, then finally I found my place here at Cincinnati Gymnastics being coached by Mary Lee Tracy. We just opened a new gym in January - It's SO cool!! During the tour, I only trained about 10 hours her week. Now I train about 20 hours per week.
I'm a junior at Northwest High School in Cincinnati. It's really important for me to graduate with my class, so when I was on tour, I had a tutor who traveled with me to help with my studies. I like to hang out with my school friends at ballgames and movies. I also like to shop in my spare time along with reading and being with my family.
I have an older brother, Dennis, 21 years old, who's probably been one of my best friends though all my ups and downs. He attended Indiana University/Purdue University this year and is transferring to IU, Bloomington, in the fall. My dad also lives in Indiana and we see eachother about every weekend.
Some of my favorite foods are pizza, Mexican and frozen yogyrt or ice cream (fat free). My favorite TV shows are Days of Our Lives (my mom tapes it for me), Young and Restless, Bold and Beautiful, Friends, and Home Improvements. Some of my favorite movies are Liar Liar and Tommy Boy, and I like to read Mary Higgins Clark's books. Teal is my favorite color and I LOVE Celine Dion's music. Oh yeah, my favorite gymnastics events are bars and beam and my next favorite sport to watch is basketball.
I've traveled and compete a lot of places in the United States and a few outside the US--Germany, Japan, and Puerto Rico. Of course, the most exciting and memorable being in Atlant and bringing home the GOLD! I thank God every day for blessing me with this experiance. My favorite Olympic moment was wearing my Gold medal, standing on the podium watching the American flag rise as our National Anthem was being played before the whole world. It's a feeling I'll never forget.

I'll type the rest up later!!
