Athletic pair on easy list

ATHLETIC teenagers Danny Boshell and Ryan Sugden have had their pre-season build-ups interrupted by injury. Midfield player Boshell (19), who forced his way into the first team late last season, has a hip problem. Striker Sugden, also 19, turned over on his ankle in training. The pair will be unable to train for the next couple of day, Manager Andy Ritchie is confident that neither injury is serious and that the pair will be back in action next week. Scott McNiven, who fractured his cheekbone while training with an amateur team in Blackpool, has been given an extra week off. The unsettled defender, who is on a weekly contract after rejecting a new deal, is feeling below par following an operation.

Onskoko impresses

Andy Ritchie has today taken a first look at French trialist Robert Mpoyi Onskoko and the boss has so far liked what he has seen. Ritchie said: "He is strong, pretty quick and doesn't have a bad touch either. This is part of the pre-season build up and so it is difficult for any trialist. It's much better to assess a player's qualities in match conditions but we don't have a match for another two weeks." Onskoko is keen to carve out a career in English football and the 19 year old will continue training with the rest of the squad for the next fortnight or so hoping to do enough to be offered some sort of deal.Ritchie said: "I'll take a good look at him over the next week or so and then make a decision."

AR still looking

Andy Ritchie is still working hard to find new blood ahead of the big kick off and now pre-season has started his search is in top gear. His number one priority remains a striker and Andy Ritchie said: "I have been in touch with one or two players but I'm not going to tell you who they are. I'm speaking to agents and clubs all the time and hopefully there will be a further addition to the squad soon. Negotiations are continuing and we are getting closer but obviously I don't want to alert other clubs who would be in competition with us."
