As of 4-20-98, A.S.G. has gone to a new HTML format. The links have changed, images have changed, and much more is changing as you read this. A.S.G. now has two versions of the HTML:
1) A smaller version for you people running FRAMES on your
sites,(this means no more distorted HTML's)
2) Our Traditional 5 section HTML (For sites without FRAMES).
As I said, both HTML's have new images and image links. There are even new links for info added too. The A.S.G. HTML you are currently running will still have working links for about 1 week. After that, you will experience image shut down.
I STRONGLY urge you to go to our HomePage and choose the "EDIT YOUR SITE" option from the menu. Simply type in your SITE ID# and the RING ID NAME (given to you at the edit page).
If you forgot you ID#, just look at your current HTML and within is your ID#. After you have put in all information needed and submitted it, you will need to scroll down the next page. There you can choose which HTML you would like to have for your site. Just scroll down and you will see the "Version 1" and "Version 2" HTML's.
"Version 1" is for sites running without FRAMES. "Version 2" is for sites running FRAMES. Please remember, your HTML MUST be placed/kept on your main start-up page.
After about two weeks, your current HTML will be a non working HTML. This is because of the server closing down due to the upgrade. I realize that this is a hassle and I sincerely apologize for your inconvenience. I hope that you can make the cross over. The good part about this is that with the much needed realigning of the ring, things are more organized and faster for all.

Greetings members,
We have just completed 5 new sports webrings run by A.S.G.(ALL-SPORT GOLD). They are: Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Soccer. If you wish to join one of the rings, please click on the "Join Ring" option from the menu at our homepage. The more rings you join under A.S.G., the more hits your site will receive.

Greetings members,
It seems that there is a scam goin on within our ring. The situation is somebody (Member or not) is going site to site asking for their password, even going to such extreams of impersonating ALL-SPORT GOLD Council Members. Please be advised, ALL-SPORT GOLD will not ask anyone for their password.
DO NOT give your password to anybody where this could lead to several problems and hardship for you. Be assured, your membership is secured with us. We have implied the best security available to us for your behalf.
If you get your password emailed to you, then you have been a victim of this scam. Good news is the only one who gets that email is you and nobody else. Please email ALL-SPORT GOLD and let us know the site you represent and when you received your password via email.
Sincerely,
ALL-SPORT GOLD

Greetings members,
The majority of you received a virtual ThanksGiving card from us. However; there are some of you that have blocked out either mas mailers, private e-mail or both. This is not good for you in regards to ALL-SPORT GOLD.
If you would like to keep us blocked, then you may not get vital information that may concern your site. If you did not get your card, you can copy the URL and go get it.

Attention all members, below is a letter I received from the leaders of the WebRing organization. You may find it interesting to read.
Dear Ringmasters,
You're receiving this message because we wanted you to be the first to know--WebRing is being acquired by GeoCities. We're sending this message to all ringmasters at the same time that GeoCities is issuing the official press release in New York.
When Sage Weil conceived the ring concept and began this effort, who could have guessed it would grow so quickly? Currently, you've helped create more than 66,000 rings! That's unbelievable. For the past year we have been looking for an organization that shared our philosophy and outlook, a partner that would not only let us retain our unique way of working, but also help us expand our operation. Both Starseed and GeoCities have worked hard to make this happen, and we are all eager for our work together to begin.
Starseed will continue to operate WebRing as an independent division of GeoCities from our offices here in Ashland, Oregon. Therefore, WebRing will retain its unique identity. Our primary focus will still be to provide ringmasters with the tools you need to effectively operate your rings--you're the reason WebRing has become what it is today. This new relationship will allow us to devote greater resources to expanding and improving WebRing to give you the features we know you want and make WebRing faster and even more reliable.
We would of course appreciate it if you would let your ring members know about our exciting news. If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the merger, please see the Questions and Answers page at Q&A or send us e-mail at merger@starseed.com.
We here at WebRing are all very excited about this--we hope you share our enthusiasm.

Over the last two months, the Site Commissioner has visited each
site in the ring at least twice. He would like to share with our
All-Sport members some of His findings. Keep in mind, I stand behind his findings 100%.
1) Many of our sites take way too long to load the index page. If your site takes more than a minute to load, you will be losing visitors to your site and to our ring.
2) While animated GIFs are fun to look at and make the page very beautiful, they increase the time it takes to load your page. Please consider reducing the number of GIFs and the length of your page to keep your visitors interested.
Multiple pages are always better than one or two long pages. If you are not sure how to add additional pages to your sites, ask one of our Commissioners to help you out.
3) Also, if you must include MIDI files on your site, give your visitor the opportunity to choose to listen to your music or at least a way for them to shut it off. Many people will not appreciate your taste in music and again you will lose repeat visitors to your site.
4) Finally, there is new HTML coding available for the All-Sport Gold Webring. Consider updating this HTML to your page. It looks better than our previous code and may increase the hits to our ring.
Also, with the new Commissioner's Award of Excellence, you have to have this code to be eligible for this award.

Attention members, I have found a glitch in our HTML. If you have a copy of the HTML before the date of 09-12-98, you need to get the UPDATED version. You can do it by CLICKING HERE to get new the HTML. Sorry for any inconvience. This version will eliminate the lost hits to your sites and keep them coming back for more.

I want to express my thanks to a recent Committee Member that has taken his responsibility to and above my expectation. He is our Site Commissioner Don Griffith. Without his help, this ring would not be where it is today. Thanks Don

ALL-SPORT GOLD has made good on its promise once again by removeing sites that was in violation with the rings GUIDELINES. This is untolerated and those who have been removed have been recorded and will never again be able to join the ring.
Members, I need Committee Members that are going to at least TRY and HELP this ring progress. Think about it people, if the ring advances and is kept clean, you will get more hits. So lets come together and take this ring and our sites to the top!!!
95% of the sites removed are sites that removed the ALL-SPORT GOLD HTML from their main pages. Again, this stops people who are surfing the ring at the site with no HTML. IT'S NOT FAIR to the sites that follow because they will not get the hits.
You may also want to review theGUIDELINES because There have been more added. To those of you who have followed the GUIDELINES, GREAT JOB!!! Keep up the good work.

ALL-SPORT GOLD has just made it possible for you to get more hits to your web sites. We just added the "KEYWORD" feature to our application page. What this means is that when somebody is in the WebRing directory and types in a keyword for his search, anybody with that keyword attached to their site will come up.
If you became a member before June 17th (6-17-98) and wish to add Keywords to your site, go to the EDIT YOUR SITE option within the ALL-SPORT GOLD Homepage.
06-19-98
ALL-SPORT GOLD is prepareing to remove several more sites due to the ALL-SPORT GOLD HTML being removed from the main page. From here on out, who removes the HTML from their main page will NOT get another chance to be apart of the ALL-SPORT GOLD webring.
Anotherwords, delete the HTML and you will be kicked out of the ALL-SPORT GOLD webring permanately!! We now have a site record keeper that will keep track of all sites URL's that has been removed so we can follow through with this promise.
05-06-98
As we all know, ALL-SPORT GOLD is the fastest growing ring on the net. We rank #1 as a multi-sport webring. We're ranked in the top 25 sports webrings in the world.
But one thing still bothers me. I just authorized the of 24 sites from our ring due to the HTML not being on the main page. This is more than double the daily removals.
Members, this is a non flexible issue. You must follow the simple GUIDELINES that the ALL-SPORT GOLD Committee has lined out for you.
The Main reason the HTML MUST be on your main page is for the ring surfers. When people are browsing through the ring and they come to a page that has either deleted or moved the HTML, the person surfing stops at your site. This hurts the hits of other member sites because the browser can't advance due to no HTML.
