OFFSEASON UPDATES:

SCHEDULE RELEASED; MARSHALL VERBALS TO BUTLER
(9/30/09)--Again, apologies for the lack of updates. Yahoo has announced they are discontinuing free web hosting via Geocities, so I am in the process of moving this site to a new location. To avoid having to update pages in two locations, I've tried to keep activity on this site low, but there are two bits of information that warrant mentioning.

First, the 2009-10 schedule was officially released, along with a schedule of televised appearances. In addition, the HLN website was relaunched, with several new features worth checking out. You will need to reregister if you had an account under the previous version. Live streaming of HL games will continue to be free of charge.

Butler also rounded out its 2010 recruiting class with the news that 6-7 forward Khyle Marshall of Flanagan HS in Pembroke Pines, FL, has verbally committed to play collegiately for the Bulldogs. Marshall averaged 26 points and 12.5 rebounds as a junior. More information can be found at ScoutHoops.com, IndyStar.com, and MiamiHerald.com. Marshall joins Erik Fromm and Chrishawn Hopkins in Butler's 2010 recruiting class. The fall signing period runs from November 11-18. Congratulations to Khyle on his decision!

Once the new location is live and ready to go, I will post a link on this site to redirect traffic. Thanks for your patience and continued patronage.

DAWGS CLOSE OUT ITALY TOUR WITH VICTORY
(8/11/09)--Butler defeated Prima Veroli 94-37 to close out its four-game set in Italy. David Woods' blog does a great job of summarizing the trip. He also notes that former Coordinator of Basketball Operations Kevin Kuwik is now on Thad Matta's staff at Ohio State. Best of luck to Kevin in Columbus.

LONG OVERDUE SUMMER UPDATES
(8/10/09)--So I'm a tremendous slacker with the updates this summer, and I apologize. Let's start from the last posted update and work forward:

Sophomores Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack helped lead the USA team to a perfect 9-0 record and the gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championship in New Zealand. Hayward was also named to the All-Tournament team. Congratulations to Gordon and Shelvin!

Former Bulldog sharpshooter Darnell Archey is returning to the Butler Basketball program as the new Coordinator of Basketball Operations. Archey, who most recently was the varsity head coach at Park Tudor HS, replaces Kevin Kuwik, who served as CoBO last season. No reason was given for Kuwik's departure.

Butler's opening round opponent in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, CA, in November will be Minnesota in a game airing on ESPN2. In addition to Butler and Minnesota, four other 2009 NCAA Tournament participants (UCLA, Texas A&M, Clemson, and West Virginia) and a 2009 CIT qualifier (Portland) join Long Beach State to comprise the eight-team field.

The Bulldogs are in the midst of a four-game foreign exhibition tour of Italy. Butler dropped its first two contests to the Swiss national team, 76-72 and 100-90, but defeated Italian club team Prima Veroli 103-45 today. All players on last year's roster, including redshirt freshmen Chase Stigall and Emerson Kampen, made the trip and are eligible to play. Only incoming freshman Andrew Smith, per NCAA rules, cannot participate. Butler is playing somewhat short-handed, as Ronald Nored and Grant Leiendecker each made the trip but will not play due to injury, and Matt Howard suffered an ankle/foot injury in the second game against the Swiss. Continuing coverage of the Italy trip can be found at the newly redesigned ButlerSports.com, IndyStar.com, David Woods' blog, and tweets from Butler coaches Brad Stevens and Micah Shrewsberry.

And last but certainly not least, Butler has its second verbal commitment for the recruiting class of 2010, as senior-to-be Chrishawn Hopkins announced he would play for Butler. Hopkins averaged 17.3 ppg in seven games at Manual HS last season and is in the process of transferring to Herron HS for his senior season. He joins Erik Fromm of Bloomington South HS in Butler's 2010 recruiting class. Congratulations to Chrishawn on his decision!

HAYWARD, MACK NAMED TO USA BASKETBALL U19 ROSTER
(6/20/09)--Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack have been named to the USA Men's U19 World Championship Team. They will participate in the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship from July 2-12 in Auckland, New Zealand. Congratulations to Gordon and Shelvin!

FROMM GIVES VERBAL COMMITMENT
(5/19/09)--Erik Fromm, a 6-8 senior-to-be from undefeated 4A state champion Bloomington South HS, has verbally committed to Butler according to scouthoops.com and the Indianapolis Star. The Star had earlier reported that Fromm was on campus today for a visit, which was evidently when he made his commitment. He is the first member of Butler's 2010 recruiting class. I'll post more information as it comes in.
