DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs held off a late charge from the Evansville Purple Aces and moved to 12-1 on the season with a 76-65 win at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs broke an 11-11 tie with a 7-0 run to take a lead they would not lose at 18-11 with 8:48 left in the first half. Butler's lead fluctuated between five and nine points for the rest of the period, with the Bulldogs holding a 37-30 advantage at halftime. Evansville cut a 12-point deficit down to six at 49-43 at the 13:25 mark, but the Bulldogs responded with a 10-2 run to push their lead back to 14 with 9:00 left. The Aces twice pulled to within six points, at 66-60 and again at 68-62, but would get no closer as Butler scored eight of the game's final 11 points to earn a 76-65 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: A. J. Graves. He followed a 25-point effort against Purdue last Saturday with 22 points tonight. He was a perfect 9-for-9 at the foul line and pulled down three rebounds.

Mike Green had 16 points and dished out eight assists. Brandon Crone added 15 points, 13 coming in the first half, along with eight rebounds. Drew Streicher had eight points and three rebounds off the bench. Brian Ligon added five points and seven rebounds. Willie Veasley finished with four points and four rebounds, while Julian Betko and Pete Campbell added three points each. Evansville was led by Jason Holsinger's 17 points.

Butler outrebounded Evansville 34-22, including 15 offensive boards leading to a 26-8 advantage in second chance points. "Second chance points killed us," said Evansville head coach Steve Merfeld. "26-8...there's the game." Although the turnover totals were nearly identical--Evansville commited 10, Butler eight--the Bulldogs had 18 points off turnovers compared to 8 by the Aces. A good win against a quality team from a quality conference, and a good tune-up for Horizon League play.

The Bulldogs get a little time to enjoy the holidays before returning to the hardwood for the aforementioned HL season. First up is a trip to face the defending league champs, the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. Game time is Saturday, December 30, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
