DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

The Butler Bulldogs tasted defeat for the first time this season as the host Indiana State Sycamores downed the Dawgs 72-64 at the Hulman Center. Butler's biggest lead came early, a 7-3 advantage at the 14:50 mark of the opening frame. The two teams battled to three ties and six lead changes. The score was tied at 18 at the 8:17 mark, but the Sycamores closed the half on a decisive 17-5 run to take a 35-23 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs closed to within seven on four different occasions in the second half, but could never get closer. The Sycamores successfully answered every Bulldog run and came away with a 72-64 victory.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Brandon Crone. Limited by foul trouble in the first half, Brandon scored all 15 of his points after halftime. He finished with a double-double, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Mike Green led the Bulldogs with 18 points to go with three assists. A. J. Graves, who was poked in the eye late in the first half and did not start the second half, finished with 14 points. Brian Ligon added six points and six rebounds. Julian Betko and Drew Streicher finished with four points each. Pete Campbell added three points. ISU was led by Gabe Moore's game-high 24 points.

ISU's first half defense kept the Bulldogs from ever getting in any sort of offensive flow. That, coupled with a 12-for-15 effort by the Sycamores from the foul line in the first half, dug Butler into a hole from which it was never able to emerge. The Bulldogs were more aggressive on offense in the second half, but could never get close enough to seriously threaten the Sycamores. Too many empty possessions on offense and too few defensive stops spelled defeat for Butler.

The Bulldogs take a week off for finals before returning to the hardwood. Next up are the Purdue Boilermakers in the Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse. Game time is Saturday, December 16, at 1:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on WGN.
