The Computer Gemach

Is the Computer Gemach for you? Not necessarily. It certainly is not for everybody.
The procedure is quite simple. Contact us; let us know who you are; tell us your needs; and we'll do our best to give you what you need.
Back to the top of this pageFor 3-5 days. In certain rare and extenuating cirumstances we have loaned out available equipment for as long as two weeks.
Back to the top of this pageThe Computer Gemach is designed for people who have serious, short-term needs. Those who want their children to be entertained with games, or who who need a computer for a long-term event, should find the necessary funding and buy their own computer.
Back to the top of this pageThat depends. Some parts may be available immediately. In cases of dire need, we have even given people parts from our own backup computer.
Complete computers are offered as soon as they are available, and there is almost always a waiting list. In the case of a very severe emergency, we usually have a single computer left and available at home. Otherwise, people may have to wait some time until one becomes available and is in good condition or working condition.
Back to the top of this pagePlease don't. There are several reasons:
When the computer is first loaned our, we can be sure that it has no viruses. Furthermore, as you have read in the previous item, we do request that our clients refrain from installing their own software. However, we cannot guarantee that there are no viruses, and we will not be held responsible for any damage caused by viruses. By borrowing a Gemach computer, or any Gemach equipment, you agree to use it at your own risk.
We also ask that you do your part. Don't install any software in the computer. Don't copy any Microsoft Word (r) or Excel (r) files to the computer. This will minimize the risk of viruses.
Of course, if you do find a virus on the computer, please let us know right away so that we can handle the problem. Don't handle it yourself. That's the job of the Computer Gemach.
Back to the top of this pageNo. Our clientele is quite honest. So far, we have never had a problem with equipment that was not returned. However, there are times when the computer is returned in damaged condition. In that case, we ask clients to replace the parts, on their honor, when their circumstances permit it.
Again, we'll have to send you back to a computer store for that. It isn't fair to deprive several people of the use of a computer in order to benefit a single person.
Sorry. That would be depriving some needy people of a computer. May we suggest that you get a babysitter for the children for several hours a day.
Go ahead and do it - but the Computer Gemach was not designed for that purpose. Computer stores will help you upgrade as necessary. The Computer Gemach does not sell equipment. We merely loan it to people so we will not have the supplies that you need.
It's unlikely that we'll be able to help you. It's rare that the computer gemach would ever have the latest computer. The gemach accepts computers from a lot of people. However, they rarely donate It is unlikely that they will donate a brand new up-to-date computer. We would love to be able to help with that.
That's available only for pay. It is not part of the Gemach. The owner of the Gemach earns his livelihood as a computer trainer and consultant. It would be unfair to ask for such services without payment.
