It could be anybody. When businesses or individuals upgrade their computers, they may decide to give the older one to the Computer Gemach. People may buy a computer and find that it is not suitable for their needs and then turn it over to the Computer Gemach.
Back to the top of this pageThat is correct. For this reason, we always look for people who will be able to supply us with computer equipment or parts.
Back to the top of this pageWe need anything that is related to computers or to computer supplies or equipment. This includes hardware, software, and/or any peripherals of any kind. It could include materials anything from a full computer to a particular new ink cartridge, plus any new legal software is also of assistance. The Computer Gemach accepts either full computers or parts of computers. However, we do request that we get only recent models. 486-class computers in excellent condition are still accepted, but 586-class or above is preferred.
The Computer Gemach also accepts peripherals, including scanners, hard drives, any other kind of drives, cables of any kind, modems, or any other computer equipment which can be of value to others.
Back to the top of this pageLaptops. It is obviously much easier for people who do not have a car to borrow a laptop than a full-sized desktop computer. They frequently have difficulty taking such a computer to their home. At the present time, we have only one laptop computer and we would be very happy to receive a number of additional recent model laptop computers to loan to people.
Back to the top of this pageYes, but only very recent laptops.
Back to the top of this pageYes. We've had a number of requests for temporary loans of photocopiers, fax machines, telephone switchboards, and multilingual typewriters. We would be happy to add this service.
Back to the top of this pageIn general, it is certainly preferred that the equipment operate on the Israeli electrical system. Please discuss any exceptions in advance.
Back to the top of this pageYes, if they are very recent. The Computer Gemach does have a small computer library.
Back to the top of this pageYes. That is not the same as books and magazines.
Very recent books and magazines in Hebrew or English about computer products, programming, troubleshooting, hardware or software issues, and bilingual computing.
Recent documentation for running, repairing, maintaining, buying, programming, or buying computer equipment.
Back to the top of this pageDiscuss this issue with your accountant. This is really only a serious factor with new equipment. Used office equipment, especially computers, depreciate so quickly that it is not a serious issue.
Back to the top of this pageNot yet. However, we are in the process of setting up a non-profit organization for sponsorship of and advertising on these discussion groups. That organization will meet the American requirements and regulations for tax deductions. At that time, presentations to the Gemach can receive a tax deduction.
Back to the top of this pageDrivers. Drivers are the CDs or diskettes that come with computer equipment. They help equipment run. People frequently neglect to provide these drivers, and that makes it much more difficult to provide our service.
