Festival Salon 2003

For the 2003 Salon the DPS changed the venue for it's Festival Salon which is open to all photographers without their needing to be a member of a club or society.

This year the Dunedin Community Centre in Princes Street, two doors from the Octagon between Air New Zealand and McRobie Photographics, housed the collection from January 21st through to January 27th.

The new venue displays the photographs much better instead of the cheek by jowl hanging at previous salons. To avoid having set times for showing of the slide entries these have been transferred to CD and are being shown continuously throughout the Salon.

The stands, with the lamp posts, certainly set off the show and people are encouraged by their placement to circulate around and around, instead of a simple 'go around the walls and out'. These stands belong to DPS, having been made originally by Ian Wyllie for the 2000 Cityscape exhibition.

With members of the public being invited to vote for their favourite photograph, often as they are leaving, this also encourages a degree of re-circulation.
