DAKOTAH KATHLEEN

This page was written when Dakotah was 6 years old. To skip her early days, and see what Dakotah is up to now, click here. Otherwise, read on, and simply click "next" at the bottom of this page to read stories of her life and see pictures of her and Paige in chronological order.

Dakotah was born on October 17th, 1993,13 agonizing days late. I thought she would never get here. I labored from Friday night until Sunday morning before she was born by c-section. Like all Moms, I'll never forget the moment I saw her face. Time stood still. This perfect little being was mine. I had loved her for so long already, and seeing her, touching her, smelling her, bonded our souls together forever.

Dakotah was a wonderful baby, easy to care for, never sick. She potty trained herself at 19 months. In fact, she pretty much has done everything that way.

Dakotah has always absorbed the world around her like a sponge. She has a memory that frightens me sometimes. She can remember details, like what was sitting on a table at a stranger's house when she was 18 months old.

When she sees an outfit on Paige that she wore as a baby, she remembers what she was doing the day she wore that outfit.

Dakotah learns so quickly. At 6, she can count to infinity, in both French and English. She is fully bilingual and is reading and writing constantly. She can write both correctly, and upside down, mirror image, a rather frightening skill if you ask me.

I think Dakotah is going to keep the school system challenged, progressing by leaps and bounds, and needing to find extra resources to keep her mind busy and stimulated.

She keeps me very amused with her views on life, and her stories that her vivid imagination creates. From time to time, I'll share one with you here. One of her popular sillies is "Oh Monica."

She's a wonderful person already. Sometimes I think I know exactly the person she will be as an adult. Sometimes that kind of scares me. But mostly, it makes me incredibly proud. Dakotah has a great deal of compassion, she understands that one of her most important goals in life has to be to strive to be a good person, someone who is kind and considerate.

She wants to be so many things when she grows up. First and foremost, she wants to be a Spice Girl. Emma (Baby Spice) namely. She pretty much lives and breathes the Spice Girls right now, dressing like them far too often for my taste.

But she has goals as well she wants to be a figure skater, a ballerina, a Fairy Princess, and a dancer like all 5 year olds do. Recently, she told me she wanted to be the Greeter at Wal-Mart because everyone liked that person, and it was a nice job to do.

She has now decided she wants to be a Vegetarian...you know, the doctor who takes care of animals, lol.

I'm hoping you'll reach for the stars, my big little girl that you'll chase every dream you have, and catch one once in a while. And whatever you choose to be, I'll be right there, cheering you on, so very proud of you.
