One sunny Saturday
morning in the
school holidays, Mr. Brown was strolling down to the corner store to get the newspaper. On
his way he passed by the park, where a group of boys & girls were playing soccer . They had
organized themselves into two teams, one wearing reddish T-shirts, the other blue
T-shirts. They were laughing & shouting & having a great time. Then Mr. Brown
noticed a small boy sitting on top of a wire fence around the park. He looked rather
uncomfortable sitting there. As Mr. Brown watched, the red team scored a goal & the
boy on the fence cheered loudly. Then the blue team gained the ball & raced to the other end of
the field. The boy on the fence strained to see as the blue team scored a goal too.Mr. Brown looked at the boy & said,
"You've sure got a good view of the game up there!"
The boy shrugged his shoulders
& nodded.
"Why don't you get down from
there & join the game?" Mr. Brown asked. "Won't they let you play?"
"Oh yes," said the boy,
"They'd let me play. I'm pretty good at soccer. It's just that I can't decide which
team to be on. Just when the red team gets in front, the blue team scores. The score is
tied at the moment...& I want to be on the winning side!"

"Well. it must be very
uncomfortable sitting on that wire fence," said Mr. Brown, as he continued on his way
to the corner store.
Some time later, Mr. Brown came
past , with his
newspaper under his arm. The soccer game was over & all the children had gone
home...all except one. The boy on the fence had finally scrambled down & was walking
in the park, his head hanging down.
"What happened?" asked
Mr. Brown.
"Oh," said the boy,
"when I finally decided which side I wanted to be on, the game was over & I never
even got to play."
"Oh dear, that's no
good," said Mr. Brown "but perhaps you've learnt a lesson today. You have to get
on one side or other. You HAVE to choose. That's when you'll be free to have fun &
enjoy yourself."
That's the way it is
for us when we choose to be on God's side & to live His way. And you know, you can
never lose when you're on the Jesus' team...so don't sit on the fence all your life...
come & join the Jesus' team now!!!
