Plants For Your Goldfish Tank

I think the best part about aquariums is when you have plants in your tank. Because if you just have a big tank with nothing in it. It looks very dull. If you go to any aquarium store and ask them what types of plants are best for a goldfish environment their going to tell you none. But thats not true. Atleast with the fish that I've had. What the people at the aquarium store think is that goldfish will eat the plants. And I've read in may different books that they do, but my fish never eat my plants. Maybe it's because I feed them enough so their not hungery to eat the plants. I don't know.

Because you want your water in your tank to be more based then acidic you would want to have plants that don't need acidic type water. Usually all plants will survive. I have gotten some plants though that need acidic water and they died within 3 weeks.

A benefit to having plants is that they need fertilizer. And what better fertilizer than fresh poop from your fish. One thing that the plants will do best is get rid of the wast that you don't want in your tank. And then they convert it into Oxygen for your fish. So that means you don't have to clean your tank as much.

If you have plants that means its going to require some minor maintenance. Like clipping and pruning. This is no biggy. I just wait till the plant grows to the top of the water and then clip it. And replant the clipping. Then the the mother plant that you cliped will grow two new shoots were you had clipped the last one. So after a while if you have been taking care of your plants you soon have a hole tank filled with plants. And it makes it look pretty cool. One thing you don't want to do is overcrowd your tank with plants. Because then you don't have any room for the fish to swim, or you've created somany hidding places that you never see the fish.

Usually some plants will grow algae on them. It could be green, or brown. This is not a bad thing. This is actually a good thing. It serves as food for the plant. It does look ugly but the plants get ride of it in about a month. So if you see this on your plants don't clip the leaves off.

Well this is all I really now about plants. I've had great great great success with growning plants for my tanks. It's like a hobby with in a hobby. Hope you enjoy.
