Although some people think of Valentines Day as mainly a romantic holiday. I don't completely agree. I think it is a day to show our family and close friends how much we care about them and in some cases (such as our parents)love them. We do this by giving out valentines and candy or any thing as long as it comes from the heart.Sometimes though those we love can't be with us on this day. Especially when the person you love is in the military. When Dad or Mom is deployed or away over valentines day there are lots of ways we can still show them that we care through cards and carepackages!!!

Valentine's Crafts
Even if you don't have any money there are still ways that you can show your Mom or Dad that you love them dearly and that they mean the world to you. Here are a few ideas!
Jar full of love - have someone save you are old mayonnaise or pickle jar. Clean it thoroughly. While it is drying on little slips of paper write down all the reasons you love your Mom or Dad, write down how much they mean to you and how much you miss them. Put one thought on each piece of paper. Then fold the pieces of paper in half and fill the jar with these. Seal the jar and decorate it with valentines stickers and ribbon.
Old fashioned valentine - instead of buying a valentines day card why not make one. Take a big piece of construction paper and cut it into the shape of a heart. Then take a paper doily and cut it also into the shape of a heart (slighly smaller than the first heart). Glue the doily heart onto the construstion paper heart. Then decorate with crayons, markers, glitter and imagination.
Collage of Love - Have someone purchase a big piece of poster board for you. Then look around your house for momentos of things you and your parents have done together. Do you have a ticket stub from the last movie you went to together before the deployment? Some pictures of you washing the car together...Make a collage up of photos and other things to show your parents you love them. Intermix this with hearts, ribbon, maybe cut up some old valentines to decorate with also. The possibilities are endless.
