Ceremony & Reception Location

A few months ago Rob`s grandparents, who raised him, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They had a huge party at a private park with about 50 guests. As soon as Rob and I pulled up to the park I knew that was where I wanted to get married. It has plenty of parking, lots of old oak trees, a lake with a fountain, jungle gym, swing sets, small basketball court, volleyball net, and a set of horseshoe pegs with horseshoes. This park also has a covered building which is air conditioned, has a full kitchen, a fireplace, and restrooms. The building is where we`ll be setting up our buffet (see below for details on food) and the cake table. Just in case it rains, the building can fit 80 people. I know we have alot more people than that but we`re not too worried about rain here in Florida in November.

Good Food and Good Friends

We have a very limited budget so we first were considering doing a mid-afternoon hor d`ourves reception with fruit, cheese, crackers, and veggies. We found that it cost as much to order those things from a deli than it was to try to make a dinner ourselves. We considered doing a barbecue, catered by a local barbecue restaurant. When our guestlist was 80 people it was feasible. When the guestlist went berserk we decided we had to find a way to make the food ourselves. We enlisted the help of his family and we`re chipping in. My mom and grandmother have joined in the efforts as well.
Ours will be a very interesting buffet. We`ll be having a little bit of everything, really. Rob`s family is making a large ham, German potato salad (family favorite),fresh cole slaw, and fresh strawberry pureé for ice cream. My mom and sister are making Empanadas (dough filled with seasoned ground beef and deep fried. YUMMY!) and beef croquettes (not sure how to explain those!). Rob and I are making bow-tie pasta with meat sauce. It`s a weird menu but it`s the cheapest way to feed as many people as we`re inviting! Plus, it gives them a variety to try a few dishes from both sides of our family (German/Dutch and Cuban. Italian was thrown in for the budget`s sake!).

UPDATE!! Everything went just as we planned and we had about 50 guests. We had, literally, just enough food for everyone. The food turned out great and the day will definitely be something we`ll remember the rest of our lives!
