June 15, 1998 Pete Wilson, Governor STATE OF CALIFORNIA THE RESOURCES AGENCY Michael C. Moore, Commissioner & Presiding Member Jananne Sharpless, Commissioner & Associate Member Renewables Technology Program Committee CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION 1516 Ninth Street Sacramento, CA 95814-5512 RE: California Energy Commission - June 3rd, 1998 Renewables Program Committee Workshop On Consumer Education Sub-account $5.4 Million Renewable Resource Trust Funds Docket No: 96-REN-1890
Dear Governor and Commissioners:
I am submitting these written comments in follow-up to my presentation and exhibit provided for the commission at the meeting on June 3rd, 1998.
In my initial statement, as was the case in the presentation, I would like to emphasize the potential ineffective waste in providing all but $0.1 million dollars of the funding to a large organization whose primary goal is to convince consumers to switch to green energy. Consumers are ready to switch to green energy. They have been waiting twenty years to have the opportunity to utilize green energy. A campaign focused on switching is not really educating consumers about their choices in the Renewables Technology Program, and how to responsibly facilitate those choices.
Please find attached my comments to support this assertion followed by an itemized response to Attachment A of the June 3rd hearing agenda.
Sincerely,
Eileen M. Smith, M.Arch.
