Before filling out the application, please review the following requirements to assure you meet the qualifications required of Geocities Community Leaders.

Basic Requirements:
- A nice site which shows that you have a good grasp of HTML coding
and which follows all the GeoCities, Banner and Eureka guidelines,
- Good communication skills is a must, English as a second language
applicants should know how to use the English spell checkers,
- Knowledge of the programs and features of GeoCities and the
Eureka neighborhood.
- An application that is filled in correctly and completely. Please
read the application information carefully.
Residence Requirements:
You must be a member of the Eureka Community for at least 6 weeks before applying. Exceptions can be made for people able and willing to act as translators, former or current CLs from other neighborhoods, or applicants who show exceptional page design ability, knowledge of Eureka's information resources, GeoCities programs, and advanced HTML knowledge. This requirement is to give you time to:
- Develop a web site here that can be a showcase to fellow citizens
- Become familiar with your neighbors, their purposes and needs
- Join in the spirit of the Eureka neighborhood
However, if your homestead here in Eureka does not reflect the theme and purpose of the neighborhood, you will not be approved for community leadership.

What will you do as a CL?
Regular duties you might be asked to perform include:
- Answering homesteader's email. Your member name and e-mail address will be posted so others can contact you if they have questions or problems. We encourage members to think of you as their primary resource for help with HTML, content guidelines, and GeoCities programs/utilities. Current leaders tell us they're getting between 10 and 20 messages a day, sometimes more!
- Monitoring assigned blocks looking for great sites and guideline violations.
- Participating in one of Eureka's Special Project Committees. Be a Chat or Forum Monitor, a member of the Eureka Newsletter staff or one of several award committees. Share your artistic abilities or foreign language skills. Recruit new CL's or welcome new homesteaders. Every Community Leader is encouraged to be an active member in one of our special teams.
- Keeping your own homepage fresh and lively. If we're holding you out as leaders of the community, your own site should be a showcase. It should be updated regularly and it MUST conform to our guidelines and neighborhood theme.
- Recruiting new Community Leaders and voting on applicants.
- Submitting reports to the Liaisons and communicating with your fellow Community Leaders regarding Eureka Business. Although not mandatory, your presence is encouraged at occasional CL meetings to help us keep Eureka running efficiently.
- Probably some other things we haven't thought of yet, but we'll let you know when we do!
NOTICE! CL's may be exposed to pornography, excessive profanity, and hatred against racial, ethnic and religious groups. This job is not to be taken lightly, it may take up 10 or more hours per week. This job is for mature individuals only.

Just before the start of the new year, Yahoo, Inc. broke all ties with the GeoCities Community Leaders. Because they no longer sanction our work, they also no longer offer any benefits or rewards for volunteering.
What will you get as a CL?
- Satisfaction of helping your neighbors
- Great friends, good times, and more email than you ever dreamed!

What if I am under 18?
As a Geocities Junior CL, you receive most of the same great benefits, and must meet the same requirements of our regular CLs, but your roles and responsibilities will be a little different. You may be asked to:
- Find sites that have free contests, games, and graphics within your assigned block to be added to Eureka Today, the Eureka newsletter.
- Write articles about special-interest sites such as Starting a New Business, Kids in Business, Money Matters, etc. for the Junior Leader Portion of Eureka Today. You could even interview a homesteader with an exceptional site, but MUST HAVE approval from your assigned Community Leader first. You will receive your own byline and the site you are writing about will be linked in the Junior Leader Portion of the newsletter.
- Assist with any Eureka Committee when called upon.
- Assist with any Junior Leader Committee (to be developed) when called upon to do so.
- Recruit and nominate new Junior Community Leaders and vote on Junior CL applicants.
- Communicate with your fellow Community Leaders regarding Eureka Business. Although not mandatory, your presence is encouraged at the CL meetings held bi-monthly to help us keep Eureka running efficiently.
- Your assigned Community Leader or Liaisons may have other requests for your assistance. Be ready to assist him or her at all times
- Probably some other things we haven't thought of yet, but we'll let you know when we do!
If you are under 18, you must give a parental (or guardian's) telephone
number contact, plus your parent or guardian must email their consent for you to participate to the CL
Sub-Committee within 24 hours
of submitting your application. If these items are not received, your
application will be discarded without response.
Please Note: We do our best to make sure sites comply with GeoCities guidelines. We cannot guarantee that you will not come upon a site with major violations. If you do, you must report it immediately to your assigned Community Leader, Co-Liaison, or the Eureka Liaison.

How long does the process take? Here is what happens to your application once it is received:
- Your site is reviewed. Those with content violations, non-business themes, numerous coding mistakes, etc. are not accepted, so it is best to
make sure your page is in order before submitting your application. You will
be notified whether or not your application has been
accepted or rejected.
- Your application is sent to CLs in Eureka, who vote based on your answers and your web page skills.
- Votes are tallied and notices are sent to those that are and are not
nominated.
- It may take up to 2 weeks for the process depending on when your
application is received. You may only send in one application every 60
days.
After reviewing these roles, benefits and requirements, please fill out
the application giving us as many details about your qualifications as possible. Put your best foot forward. Your application will be reviewed by the current Community Leaders.
