Chess & Internet Chess

In High School, I played chess on a school chess team. For 3 years, I occupied first board, the equivalent of first violin in an orchestra. Since that point, I've played chess with friends, relatives, and even complete strangers.

There are servers on the internet set up specifically to allow chess players to meet, converse, kibitz (discuss a game), and even play chess. One of the most popular, and by far the cheapest (free), is the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS). I can sometimes be found online there with the handle of "Figbert."

You'll undoubtably discover that I could be better at chess, but then, as Deep Blue recently proved, so could Gary Kasparov.

I've also ported timeseal, a lag compensator, to OS/2 using EMX. You can download the latest via HTTP here. I was also involved in beta testing OS/2's most feature-rich chess interface for MysticUK. You can check out infromation about his program, PMICS.

I've writted a brief strategy guide to Crazyhouse chess. You'll find it here.
