There are sometimes signs that trouble is brewing or has brewed and that there is a problem that needs to be solved.
When somebody who is close to you or somebody who you respect or somebody who changes their demeanor or speaks surprisingly or suddenly in a different way or is more abrupt, serious than he usually is. This is a sign, a warning sign that there is a problem. It's not a problem in a hundred percent of the cases but it is a sign that you look into the situation seriously and see whether there is a problem at this point, and if so, of course, you should handle it right away.
Granted, the person who is acting differently may be going through problems of his own at this time. This is where judgment comes in to differentiate between someone who speaks strangely and has a reason for it and somebody else who is indicating that there is a problem.
The problem with most signs is that you have to differentiate between signs that there is a problem that needs to be solved and signs that the person who is acting differently has his own problem but it does not necessarily affect you and it is an issue that should be dropped or ignored.
Again, this is where your confidant comes in to get another opinion and to help you make this necessary differentiation.
