Apreciados Feligreses,

Dear Parishioners,
In giving this financial report for the first six month of the fiscal year (July 1 – December 31, 2002) I want to thank you for your support of Holy Family. We are in a challenging time, but there are some signs of hope. Although the bottom line is discouraging, I need to point out that this is a mid-year report. Some of our bigger expenses (like textbooks for school and religious education) come in September. Also we faced some unforeseen expenses such as the burst water main and vandalism to our school. Finally we had a couple of budget errors which we have rectified.
July 1- December 31, 2002
Non-School Income
Collections 294,921
Debt Reduction 43,575
Other 99,460
Total 437,956
Non-School Expenses 324,170
Net Gain/Loss 113,786
School Income
Tuition 218,613
Other 100,245
Total 318,858
School Expenses 454,202
Net Gain/ Loss -135,344*
Total Parish Income 756,814
Total Parish Expense 778,372
Net Gain/Loss -21,558On the income side, we have a number of reasons for hope and confidence. Our Sunday collections reached 98% of our budget goal and other income (stipends for weddings, quinceañeras, funerals and other services; the Fr. Corapi retreat, etc.) exceeded the budget goal by over twenty-three thousand dollars. And your response to the debt reduction campaign was magnificent: $30,339 in two-bit collections and $13,236 in special donations.
In our school we have several thousand dollars due from the Title One program and about thirty thousand dollars of uncollected tuition. We have increased school lunches by 50 cents which should bring an additional thousand dollars each month. Also our in-parish school families participate in Sacrificial Giving and several thousand is due from the past year. All of that should bring our budget into closer balance.
Our school families work hard to support the school and over-all parish. During the next six month our Parents Club will be donating a total of $60,000 from the auction and other fund raising efforts ($15,000 of which has already been given at the beginning of January). On May 10 we will have a Dinner Theater to which school alumni and others will be invited. We are hoping to raise between ten and fifty thousand dollars from this event.
In addition I will continue to ask your patience and support in second collections for debt elimination. If we can receive another $30,000 from them and meet the other goals I mentioned, we will bring our budget into balance by June 30. At the same time I will be working with our Finance Council, together with the Parish Council and School Commission, to present a sound budget for fiscal year 2003-2004. This is essential so we can move ahead with the urgent needs of our parish programs and facilities.
Finally, at our January 16 parish council meeting the suggestion was made to have a novena of prayer asking God’s help for our parish (and personal) finances. I will be informing you about that later. Again thank you for your support of Holy Family.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Phillip Bloom
*This figure does not include the subsidy from parish to school which was budgeted at $140,000 for the current fiscal year. With the fundraising I mentioned above, we still have hope of staying within that subsidy amount.
