JEFF GOLDBLUM

Actor

Jeff Lynn Goldblum was born October 22, 1952, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the third of four children to Doctor and Mrs. Harold Goldblum, he attended Carnegie Mellon University's summer drama program, and went to New York City at the age of 17 to study acting there. His first notable stage role was in Joe Papp's Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Director Robert Altman took Goldblum to Hollywood and gave him small parts in 1974's California Split and 1975's Nashville. (His first film role was actually as "Freak #1" in Death Wish.) The 1980's television series Tenspeed and Brownshoe with Ben Vereen and films like The Big Chill in 1983 and The Fly in 1986 brought him a lot of recognition. His biggest roles were blockbuster roles in the blockbuster movies Jurrasic Park and Independence Day. As in these last two films, Goldblum is often cast as a bit of an eccentric. Among his latest work is Cats and Dogs in 2001 and Igby Goes Down in 2002. In 2003, he was cast in NBC-TV's War Stories as a war correspondent.

Goldblum has directed some as well, and was nominated for an Academy Award for his short film Little Surprise. He has been married and divorced twice, to actresses Patricia Gaul and Geena Davis.
