This was a full sheet cake. I used an 11x15" pan to make the tallis, carving out the shape. It was placed directly on the cake. In the background (not visible in this picture) is a small round cake that represents a yarmulka (head covering). The yarmulka was made using a double layer cake covered in black (chocolate) icing. It was placed on a clear separator plate, and at the reception it was placed on pillars towards the back of the cake.
The lettering was all made out of royal icing. The hebrew letters were painted silver using silver dust.
The tallis was made to match the one the Bar Mitzva boy recieved.
