Handprint Wreath

You will need:

green construction paper
glue
red ribbon
piece of cardboard or poster board (optional)

Trace your child's handprints several times on green construction paper. You can do a separate wreath for each child or use handprints from each one of your children to make one wreath. Cut the handprints out. Arrange the handprints in a circle with the prints all pointing in the same direction. If you wish you can cut out a circle wreath out of cardboard or poster board and glue the handprints to the circle wreath. The makes a sturdier wreath. (hint:The easiest way to do this is to use a large bowl and trace it onto the board for the outside circle. Use a smaller bowl for the inside circle.) Otherwise, once you have the handprints arranged to your satisfaction, simply glue them together. Use red ribbon to make a bow to glue to the top of your wreath. Hang the wreath where it can be admired by all. If you do this every year you can see how much the children have grown from one year to another.

Handprint Pillow

You will need:

1/2 yard muslin or cotton fabric
thread
polyester fiber fill
fabric paint
small brush
aluminum pie pan

Make a pillow by cutting 2 pieces of fabric squared to the size pillow that you want out of muslin or cotton fabric. Place the right sides of the fabric together and sew leaving 1/2" seam allowance. Leave an opening in one side. Turn the pillow. Stuff with polyester fill. Sew the opening shut. Squeeze some fabric paint into an aluminum pie pan. Have your child place the palm of his hand into the paint and then carefully onto the pillow. Let the pillow dry. Using a small brush paint the child's name and the year onto the bottom corner of the pillow. This is another keepsake item that you can display each year.
