Is Your Dog Purebred?

NO? Then definitely "SPAY or NEUTER YOUR PET!"
The ONLY reason to breed is to BETTER THE BREED!
There are over a MILLION dogs and cats put to death every year for the simple fact that there are not enough wanting homes for them. PLEASE don't let your pet add to that number!

Every fertile female has a chance of producing an average of 64 puppies in her lifetime if left intact and able to breed. These puppies will grow up to produce puppies. Every intact dog and bitch is able to produce an uncountable sum of offspring as they produce, then their puppies produce, then their puppies produce puppies.

If you are thinking of breeding your mixed breed dog because you want a puppy, why not just go adopt one of the MANY countless dogs from a shelter or Rescue organization that needs a home? You will be getting a new best friend and they will love you for "SAVING THEIR LIFE!"

Where did you get your dog?

Unless your dog came from a breeder, "PLEASE SPAY OR NEUTER" your pet!
If you found your pet or acquired it from a shelter, even if you believe it is a purebred, you have no way of knowing what your dog's pedigree is and what genetic defects is carried in its bloodline. Unfortunately it is the same with dogs from Pet Shops and Puppy Mills. Pet shops and Puppy Mills only buy or produce dogs to make money and lend little forethought on good breeding, healthy dogs, or a sound bloodline.

A "Responsible" Breeder spends many years dedicating themselves to breeding out genetic faults. They avoid breeding dogs with questionable temperament and genetic diseases because they are dedicated to producing only sound, healthy dogs with stable temperaments. In essence; they are dedicated to "BETTERING THE BREED!"

Do you have at least a three to five generation pedigree on your dog?

NO? Then please, "SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!".
If you don't know your dog's pedigree, then you have no idea what hidden dangers are lurking in its genes just waiting to show themselves in the puppies. Most states now have animal lemon laws. If you produce and sell a puppy with a genetic disease (hip dysplasia for example), then YOU may be held responsible for that dog! A lawsuit in one state resulted in the breeder paying the total cost of the dog's hip replacement surgery which resulted in thousands of dollars!

But aside from the financial aspect, just think if you bought a puppy for your child. You child became devotedly attached to the puppy then six months later the puppy was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Now you are looking at the choice of putting the puppy down, or spending an enormous amount on vet bills, or suing the breeder for part of the vet costs. And remember, that breeder COULD BE YOU!

Are there at least 4 titled dogs in the last 3 generations?

NO? Then please, "SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!"
Almost ANY dog can breed. But if your dog doesn't have at least 4 titled ancestors in a 3 generation pedigree, then the chances are it doesn't come from quality breeding stock. This may not diminish its value as a pet, but it certainly should not be bred. If it doesn't come from quality breeding stock, then chances are its genetic background is not sound and this DOES reduce the quality of a pet. You certainly don't want to be responsible for producing a litter of unsound puppies.

Remember, "The ONLY reason to breed is to BETTER THE BREED!" The world already has its share of pets, many of which are in shelters and pounds. If you want a puppy, why not go adopt a friend for your dog? You'll gain a new friend, and SAVE A LIFE!

Does your dog have a stable temperament?

NO? Then please, "SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!"
Temperament is genetic. If your dog is timid or aggressive, it will probably pass on these tendencies in its puppies. The shelters and pounds are full of dogs whose owners no longer want them for temperament reasons. These dogs are the ones that no one wants to adopt so their fate is sealed. The only recourse the shelters have is to put these dogs to death. Why breed a litter that is only destined to die?

Does your dog fit the standard for its breed?

NO? Then please, "SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!"
Remember, "The ONLY reason to breed is to BETTER THE BREED!" If your dog is pet quality, then that won't detract from its quality as a companion. But please don't breed it. The world already has its share of pets, many of which are in shelters and pounds. If you want a puppy, why not go adopt a friend for your dog? You'll gain a new friend, and SAVE A LIFE!

Is your dog HEALTHY and CERTIFIED free of genetic diseases?

(OFA hips, OFA elbows, OFA heart, OFA patella, Eyes CERF, thyroid, VonWillebrand disease, ect.)

NO? Then please, "SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET!"
Your dog may appear healthy on the outside. You may even have a vet tell you your dog is healthy, but unless your dog is tested and CERTIFIED free of genetic disease, it should not be bred!

Most states now have animal lemon laws. If you produce and sell a puppy with a genetic disease (hip dysplasia for example), then YOU may be held responsible for that dog!
