When I saw this picture it reminded me of all the elderly in nursing homes who are placed there by their children for one reason or another. It is not so much the fact that they are placed in the home, but the fact that many of them once placed there, are forgotten. It reminded me of my Aunt Jean whom I love and is in a nursing home called St. Augustine Manor in Cleveland, Ohio. She had a stroke two years ago and is unable to use her right arm, is in a wheelchair but quite active in all the activities arranged for the residents. One day a number of the residents got together and composed a poem which was set to music. It is a reminder that even though they may be forgotten, they never forget us, for now they are walking their winter of life holding on to the arms of our Lord.
YOU CAN DO ANYTHING
YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL PERSON
BECAUSE GOD MADE YOU THAT WAY
SO YOU HAVE TO CARE ABOUT YOURSELF
EACH AND EVERY DAY
YOU CAN DO ANYTHING IF YOU'LL ONLY TRY
JUST HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
AND REACH UP FOR THE SKY
LEARN TO LIVE EACH MOMENT FULLY
LEARN TO SHARE THE JOY INSIDE
GOD LOVES YOU EVERY MOMENT
DON'T BE LEFT ON THE OUTSIDE
JUST AS THE BUTTERFLY BREAKS FREE
FROM THE COCOON
SPREAD YOUR WINGS TO HEAVEN
FOR YOUR SAKE DO IT SOON
WE'LL SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR YOU
AND THANK HEAVEN YOU'RE ALIVE
DON'T EVER BE DISCOURAGED
FOR GOD ALWAYS WILL PROVIDE.
