"AUTUMN"

My favorite time of year.

Sure spring is nice when it rolls around and all the pretty flowers come out of hiding. Of course summer has it's good times with swimming, boating and fishing and vacations. Winter, has it's moments with Christmas and New years and snow. Let me tell you what Fall has that the other seasons can't compare to. I was born Oct 22nd and that makes me an autumn baby and it certainly fits my nature. Fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves start to change from that plain old green to lovely shades of yellow, brown, orange, and red. The temperatures cool off and we finally begin to get some cool breezes. Breezes that at times seem to whisper to us and bring us all the wonderful smells of autumn. The smell of leaves being burned, fires going in fire places and the wonderful foods that we begin to cook such as smoked hams baking in ovens or in smokers. Then there are the sounds....wind blowing, sometimes lightly and sometimes with a bit of a force. There is the sound of chain saws cutting up the future stores of firewood for fall and winter. The sound of leaves fluttering about on the trees as the wind blows and the sound of crumpling leaves as you walk on them. We seem to take to drinking hot cocoa around that time. Autumn is also great snuggling weather. Great for snuggling with your spouse or children or just any loved ones. Marshmallows being toasted is also a fall treat. My kids enjoy raking up a pile of leaves and throwing them at each other or just jumping in them. Living in Georgia's Blue Ridge mountains is in my opinion the best place on earth to be when the fall season hits. Winding roads everywhere. Never knowing what is around the next bend no matter how many times you have traveled it, and the best is the view of the mountains and the brilliant colors atop them from the trees. The wonderful colors. Nothing compares. Oh, and halloween....let's not forget that day. I like to see all the tiny ghosts and goblins in there little costumes and then there are pumpkins and pumpkin pie (yum). The harvest and the wreaths hanging on doors made of colored corn. Candied apples are also a fall treat. You don't hear much of them any other time of the year. Where I am, the season is pretty much full of carnivals and fairs, and craft shows going on. My favorite thing to look at in live nature is a horse running. Nothing appears so natural and beautiful in the great outdoors except for that horse running with a back drop of changing leaf colors. Ever visit a running stream in the fall. The water just seems to change. The air around it seems to smell and feel so much cleaner and crisper. I love to watch the water flowing with leaves dropping in it from the trees and watch the leaves travel down that stream till I can no longer see them. Wondering where they will end up. The sunset is always great but it is more beautiful going down behind the newly colored mountains. I think we all have something special we like and think of in the fall. I've told you all of my likes. If you have a special memory or a special picture that involves this time of year, email it to me and I'll add it to this page.
