Basket Mask Frame Tutorial

Click on this background to see what we're making.

Since I had several people ask me how to do this, I thought I would do a tutorial.  It was a good idea since I had to "play with it" to make it come out right every time I did it.

I've written it using Eye Candy, but you can use BladePro for the border if you don't have Eye Candy.  Just choose a preset you like and that looks right.

You will also need to download the basket mask zip file and unzip it into your PSP5 or 6 masks directory.  The mask came from 2am Graphics Lab Artistic Edges where you can get some other great masks.

In PSP5 or 6:

  1. basket_tut00.jpg (15393 bytes)Choose the image or tube you want to frame.  Mine started out 150x150.  It's best not to use a white background behind your image because of merging layers.

  1. basket_tut0.jpg (12845 bytes)Choose Mask>Load from Disk

Select Basket mask.  It should look like this:

  1. Mask>Invertbasket_tut1.jpg (17997 bytes)

  1. basket_tut2.jpg (20786 bytes)Layers>Merge>Merge All (Flatten).
You will have a white edge like this:

  1. If the border isn't wide enough, go to Image>Add Borders>Check Symmetric>10.
  2. With the magic wand, click the white border to select it.
  3. Choose a foreground color and use the flood fill tool to add border color.

Keep the border selected.basket_tut3.jpg (15587 bytes)

Choose Image>Plug-in Filters>Eye Candy>Inner Bevel with these settings. I named it Oval Button because it was from an oval button tutorial, but you can name it whatever you like by clicking on the pencil on the left, entering a name, and clicking ok.   I used Eye Candy a long time before I knew you could do that.  Click on the check mark when done.

  1. Choose Select>Invert
  2. Image>Effects>Cutout with these settings and click ok:

  1. basket_tut6.jpg (23003 bytes)Deselect (Ctrl d) or Selection>Select None for you non-keyboard folks.

Now you're reedy to add a border.
