Grooming is an important part of owning a horse. It keeps your horse's coat healthy, tones the muscles, gives the horse a massage and plus, the horse enjoys it! For a horse who is kept in a paddock, without rugs, it is very important to give your horse a thorough groom, every time you ride him, or preferably everyday. It is important to check for cuts, grazes etc.
A horse who is stabled, or is kept outside with rugs on, does not need as much grooming, but it is still best to do so.

Brushes

There are different brushes that should be in your grooming kit, and serve different purposes.

The Dandy Brush or Water Brush
The Dandy Brush or Water Brush is used for getting of cached mud or dirt and to brush the tail. The Water brush is mainly used with water on the hoofs (or without water).

The Body Brush
The Body Brush is used, as it's name explains, on the body. It is probably the most used brush in all the grooming kit. It would probably be best to invest in a more expensive natural bristled body brush, rather than a cheaper nylon bristled body brush, as this will be better for your horse's coat.

The plastic curry-comb
The Plastic curry comb is for mainly the horse's tail.

The hoofpick
The hoofpick is an important part of the grooming routine. It is used to pick out all the stones and muck out from the horse's hoof. You should be careful not to dig into the horse's frog as this is the sensitive part of the hoof. Picking out the hoof should be done before every ride.

The Stable Rubber
This is a cotton cloth (maybe even a tea towel) that is used just as a final wipe over, to get a final shine on the coat.

Scissors
Well, I guess that you already know what these are for. Well, if you didn't know, it's for trimming hairs around the horse. eg. Trimming the horses ear hairs.

Mane and Tail comb
The mane and tail comb is exactly how it's name describes it. It is a comb for combing the mane and tail. While brushing the tail, hold just above the part you are combing and brush all the hair below your hand, so you don't rip out your horse's PRECIOUS tail.
