Murphy's Story

This is the story about ME!!! That's why you're here, isn't it? Well, it is an interesting one. Enjoy!

This was taken the day after I arrived at my new home!

In early February 1998, at the tender age of three months, I was dropped off at the home of Mommy's friends, Tonya and Guerry. I thank God that this person dumped me in front of this caring home. Tonya and Guerry took me into their home, fed me, and gave me a warm place to stay. They already had over 14 dogs and cats that they've rescued through the years! I knew that I was in a good home.

Godmommy Tonya then told Mommy that she had a stray male kitten and asked if she wanted to adopt me. Mommy had been thinking long and hard about bringing a kitty into her home, but the time never felt right. Her 25th birthday was coming up that Saturday. Tonya offered to have me combo tested (for FIV and leukemia) and to pay for my first round of shots (OUCH!!!) to prepare to give me to her for a birthday present. Mommy thought long and hard and she felt that the time was right!!! It was her birthday after all! So, after I tested negative, I was delivered by Tonya and Guerry to my new home. The date was February 7, 1998....Mommy's birthday! I met my grandparents and uncle that night, too. I loved my new home! I had lots of new toys and a new person to play with. I was so lucky to find my godparents, Tonya and Guerry!

Next, Mommy had the important task of naming me. Actually, she had already picked my name out long before I came to live with her! She told me that when she was a little girl, she decided that she would name her very first pet either "Dale" or "Murphy" after her childhood hero, Atlanta Braves star and great humanitarian (and future Hall of Famer) Dale Murphy. So, she decided to name me "Murphy" after Mr. Murphy. I think the name fits me well, don't you?

I continued to grow and grow...and eat and eat. I loved my new home, my new Mommy and my new family. Mommy would take me over to my grandparents' house to play, or try to play, with my aunts Becky and Carmen, and my uncle, Chipper. I don't think they like me very much. :-(

In April, I entered a new chapter in my life....I was neutered. Boy, did that hurt! Mommy explained to me why she was going to have this done to me. I was mad at first, but now that it's over, I understand how important it is. There are too many kittens like I was lost in the world who eventually are killed either by a car, a mean person hurting them, or in an overpopulated shelter. The surgery also helped to reduce my risk of certain cancers. Pretty serious stuff! I thank my Auntie Pam who paid for the surgery (as part of Mommy's birthday present) and Mommy who thought enough to have it done.

Now with most of my "firsts" out of the way, I can continue to play, eat, and just live life in my new home. I hope you have enjoyed my life story to this point and that you will use the following links to learn more about me- my favorite things, my feline friends, and my favorite links on our links page.
