Welcome

Chicago the town that never sleeps, the city that I will always call home...the place my roots are....my heart will always be part of it's center. Come along with me, as I give you the tour of a lifetime..If you've never visited Chicago now is the time...you will never be bored!

As you drive a long Lake Shore Drive..you will find Lake Michigan on the East and the Beautiful Buckingham Fountain on the West. This is where my husband proposed to me, 31 years ago! Very romantic!!!!!

Edward H. Bennett designed the fountain , in 1926,to represent Lake Michigan with four sea horses, built by Marcel Loyau, to symbolize the four states that touch the lake: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Bennett attributed the design specifically to the influence of the Fountain Latona at Versailles.

As you continue your drive North on Lake Shore Drive, soon you will view the Landmark Navy Pier

A Chicago Landmark since it opened in 1916, Navy Pier was originally designed as both a shipping and recreation facility. The Pier also served as a military training site during two world wars, as a venue for concerts and exhibitions, and as home to The University of Illinois - Chicago campus from 1946 through 1965.

As the facility fell into disuse during much of the 1970’s and 1980’s, the City and State reached agreement to fund the redevelopment and renovation of the Pier. Ownership of the Pier was transferred to the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority and the Authority moved swiftly to redesign Navy Pier into one of the countrys most unique recreation and exposition facilities.

What? Lighthouses in Chicago? There's actually a long history of lights at the mouth of the Chicago River. The light placed there in 1832 was the earliest on Lake Michigan. The tower pictured above was constructed in 1893, and moved to the outer breakwater in 1917. A beautiful Third Order lens, with red and white flashing panels, was installed after the Columbian Exposition of 1891. The award-winning lens had been built especially for Pt. Loma, California, but instead, it was installed in the just-completed Chicago Lighthouse. Today this light exhibits a flashing red beacon. My fascination with lighthouses began when I was a little girl and sat along Lake Michigan Shores, watching this beautiful lighthouse. Little did I know that one day I would be fortunate enough to visit many lighthouses along the sea ways!
