John Wesley Grisham fought for the Confederate in the Civil War. He was a Private in Captain S. E. Nelson Cpmpany G, 41 Reg't Mississipp Vounteers. He enlisted May 8, 1862 at Verona, MS for 3 years.He was in the Battle at Chattanoga and was hurt. He was wounded and from June, 1862 through December, 1862 he was in hospital. He was given a leave Janurary, 1863 from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Then his records looks like he returned to duty and for some reason he was sent back to the hospital March of 1863. He stayed in the hospital through pay period March through Oct. 1863. Then his pay records show that he was present Jan through August 31, 1864. It looks like part of his pay records a missing. I know he drew a pension and after his death his wife Mrs. Fanny Grisham drew a pension. Washington did not send these records.
John Wesley Grisham was born July 1834 in Tennessee and died 1912 in Pontotoc Co., Mississippi. He is buried in the Thaxton Cemetery, Pontotoc Co., MS. He married (1) Eliza A. Cochran July 26, 1860 in Pontotoc, MS. she died in childbirth. (2) He married S or L Ann HATTOX August 24, 1869 in Pontotoc, MS She died from childbirth when their child, Joseph E. "Jodie" Grisham was a few days old, Feb, 1877.(3) He married Mrs Fanny Gay October 23, 1887 in Pontotoc, MS
