NOTES:

John Wesley Wood and family left Georgia with his Parents,
William Thomas and Susan Frances McCARTY Wood. On a research
trip in 1983 I visited with a nephew, John Durham, of Nancy
Jane DURHAM Wood. John Durham said that Aunt Jane was
married one day in Valley Head, Alabama and returned the
next day to Walker Co., Georgia with her husband, John
Wesley Wood and the family never say her again. He was told
later that they were headed for Oklahoma. To my knowledge I
have not found anything that leads me to believe that this
family was ever in Oklahoma. Following William Thomas Wood
Civil War Records it also proves that they may have been
headed for Oklahoma, but didn't go. In fact they returned
and stayed in Walker Co., Georgia until the year 1895 and
then came to Texas. This family worked in the oil field in
Desdemona "Hog town", Texas. There were not any housing and
the family lived in a tent shelter. The bottom was made form
lumber and the top was tent canves. They had one large room
and cooked outside. John Wesley Wood later went into farming
and this was what he was doing at his death in 1949.

Mary Lou Wood was born March 2, 1894, in Walker Co., Georgia, and died April 13, 1970 in DeLeon, Comanche Co., Texas. She married William Lee "Willie" Jefferson Skaggs, September 7, 1913 in the Rock Bluff Community, Comanche Co., Texas. Son of William Julius "Willie Joe" & Francis Jane SMITH Skaggs.
