Bentley A. Bowels was born in Alexander County and resided there as a farmer where at the age of 20 he enlisted in Company G on October 9, 1861. He died in a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, on June 17, 1862, of typhoid fever. Private Bowels is buried in the University of Virginia's Confederate Cemetery in Charlottesville.
