Henry Bennett was born in Union County and resided there prior to enlisting in Company D, on September 16, 1861.  He was 22 years old when he enlisted.  He was wounded in the hand at the battle of 2nd Manassas on August 29, 1862.  He was reported absent without leave in November-December, 1862, and absent sick in January-February, 1863.  He returned prior to the battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, where he was wounded once again.  He once more returned to duty on an unknown date, and was captured at or near Gettysburg on July 5, 1863.  He was first confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, and was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 15-18, 1863.  He died at Point Lookout on April 9, 1864, of unknown causes.  Private Bennett is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Point Lookout, Maryland.
