Jordan S. Councill was born in Watauga County and resided there as a farmer when he enlisted in Company B on September 14, 1861, at the age of 19. He was absent without leave July - October, 1863, and returned to duty in November - December, 1863. He was captured at the Wilderness (May 6, 1864), and confined at Point Lookout. On August 8, 1864, he was transferred to Elmira, New York, where he died of pneumonia on November 17, 1864. Private Councill is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, New York.
