This was so informative... I had never heard the term "melungeon" until two weeks ago. I had heard that we had "Black Dutch" in our ancestory...I was so surprised to find so much info about this term and the people... My great grandmother was 4 ft. 10 inc
es tall and very small... she was dark skinned and had dark hair and eyes... The name Biggs came up in my ancestory... I have just started on this line so I have a long way to go to put it all together.... Thanks for your input... Oh yes, the name Hutchin
was there too..

Howdy from South Texas! I know the Cherokees have the Indian Rolls to prove their ancestry. Do the Melungeons have anything like this? Some written proof of our ancestry?
I need all the help I can get!

Hi
I am a Melungeon from southwestern Virginia. I am always interested in finding new cousins. Hope that your search is giving you answers. Have you read Brent Kennedy's book yet? If not , you really need too. Brent told me one day that calling yourself a
Melungeon is more than finding a name to define your roots, it is knowing that others are searching for answers and we are all part of the same race HUMAN
I search for Hall, Hillman, Fleenor, Edwards, Carrico, Kilgore, Pennington, Robbins,Kennedy(Cannady), Horne, Holbrooke,Wooton, --some are Melungeon, some are not.
If you would like to keep in touch e-mail me
Thanks for letting me visit your page.
PS I am also a student, studing Appalachian Studies

Hi. Just cruising tonight. I had lost your homepage address when I changed servers, so I rediscovered it tonight. I love the pics you've of your home that you've added--so interesting.
I've signed up for my own family homepage, thanks to your blurb. Not enough time to fill it in just now, but will. Take care. A

Just browsing and looking up the name Ligon. My family is the "lost" Ligon family since it has produced single sons every generation (until now) for almost two hundred years. I have no known close Ligon relatives. My father was John Barrows Ligon IV, or
ginally from Jackson, Mississippi.

As I read the beginning of your story, my eyes stung with approching tears. I've heard the same story lines of our family background. Of course I haven't gotten far in my research to prove the possibilty of being Melungeon. I however, like you, feel the d
awing toward these lineages. I feel encouraged (from reading your story) to persue my quest of proving my Melungeon lineage! Thank you.

I am trying to find where my mother's family name comes from. Her maiden name is Clary, and I was wondering if there is any connection?
