This was so informative... I had never heard the term "melungeon" until two weeks ago. I had heard that we had "Black Dutch" in our ancestory...I was so surprised to find so much info about this term and the people... My great grandmother was 4 ft. 10 inc es tall and very small... she was dark skinned and had dark hair and eyes... The name Biggs came up in my ancestory... I have just started on this line so I have a long way to go to put it all together.... Thanks for your input... Oh yes, the name Hutchin was there too..

Howdy from South Texas! I know the Cherokees have the Indian Rolls to prove their ancestry. Do the Melungeons have anything like this? Some written proof of our ancestry? I need all the help I can get!

Just browsing and looking up the name Ligon. My family is the "lost" Ligon family since it has produced single sons every generation (until now) for almost two hundred years. I have no known close Ligon relatives. My father was John Barrows Ligon IV, or ginally from Jackson, Mississippi.

As I read the beginning of your story, my eyes stung with approching tears. I've heard the same story lines of our family background. Of course I haven't gotten far in my research to prove the possibilty of being Melungeon. I however, like you, feel the d awing toward these lineages.
