The Caldwell family played a significant and direct roll in the history of several of the counties of Kentucky.  Curiously, Caldwell County does not appear to be one of them.  Formed in 1809, Caldwell County was named in honor of Gen. John Caldwell, who had served as Leutenant Govenor of the state of Kentucky from 1804 until his death in 1807 or 1808. The honorarium appears to be a result of his service as Lt. Governor rather than anything to do directly with the county named for him.
