My father was also a Marine during WWII. He was in the 1st Marines also. The first of the first he says. He fought in Pelelui, Cape Gloucester. The only one he did not fight in was Imo Jima. He rarely talks about the war and still has nightmares. I t ink you both are brave men and am thankful for what you did for our country. I hope the younger generations understand what you fought for and that they never forget what their grandfathers went through for all of us.

Enjoyed your site. Thank you for taking the time and effort to post it. I am most grateful to those who served during WW II. My uncle saw action at Saipan and Okinawa and my Dad as a B-17 belly gunner over Europe. I saw The Thin Red Line out of a sense of graditude for those who served. yes i was wondering do you know what army infaltry landed on guadal canal? because i am trying to find out what infaltry my grandfather was in he died in 1984 and he was a war hero(11 medals) and my grandmother said he was in the 2nd wave at guadal canal ut he was in the army and she said they took heavy loses when they landed i am trying to get the info so i can get more info on him and his metals well can you please email me if you know and also email me if you know how i can get info on him because i k ow his rank and cerial number thanks so much for your help

Recently, I completed my first book, "Cameras Over The Pacific" about Marine Photo Squadron 254 and one of the marines in the squadron is George Richards from Cape Coral, FL. Dear Sir: I am searching for anyone who may remeber or knew of my father. I am sorry, I don't have much information to give you, for my father was killed in a drowning accident in 1959. I recently found out that he served in WW II, and he was a Marine. His name is Harold Joseph Raplee, and I have his SS# if that will help. I was only 5 years old at the time of my father's death. I recently located my father's siblings who informed me of my dad being in the war, and I found out that my father was a PO for about 90 days, and he managed to get away on his own. My dad was in the 4th Marine Raider battalion, but most of the Raider glory days were soon only history when the Raiders were disbanded. He served from august '43 to his discharge in Nov(?)'45 He has taken an interest in finding some of his old Marine bud ies during the last 15 years. I was always asking about his life as a Marine but my mom says that even after all these years he still will wake up in a sweat sometimes. He doesn't talk much about it, but has joined the US Marine Raider assoc. and found a ew old friends. Between the casualty rate during the war and the passage of time, there are getting to be few Raiders anymore. I'm sure that is true with any Marine vets from that period. I thank my dad and you, Don Langer for making my future and my chil ren's future a reality. Semper Fi

Interesting page. I'm glad to see things like this available for those of us not yet born during WWII. I want to make sure my child and grandchild don't forget what these incredible people made possible for us. I'm looking for information on a cousin of mine who was mortally wounded at Iwo Jima. Government sources inform me all info they have is still protected by privacy laws. I'm putting together my family history for a family reunion and want to make sure my ousin is never forgotten. Is there a veteran's organization, perhaps, that would have any information to help me honor my cousin's memory? His name was Merylin Howell, and he came from Tennessee. Hi Don, My Dad Eddie Marcello served Guadalcanal; he enlisted Jan 1940, was at Parris Is., Culebra, Guantanamo Bay, New River. He was on the USS Wakefield to New Zealand and served with the 1st Matines, 2nd Bat, 5th Marines. I have some wonderful pre-Canal pictu es of Guantanamo and NC, a scrapbook and some letters. My father was in the USMC during WWII, and he won the "Silver Star". That is all I know about it. He never talked about it so our family does not know how it came about, and we would love to know, so that we may pass it on to future generations.
