To My Mother

Louise May Curtiss

Anyone can be a Mother
It takes someone special to be a Mama

Dear Mama,

They say most tears are cried at a graveside and many years after for things that were left unsaid. There are things I would like you to know that I feel. Thank you for giving me life and being my Mother. I know over the years I havent made it easy on you a lot of times but you never complained or gave up on me. Although you dont always uderstand things I do or the way I feel about things you respect my right to be myself and love me just the same. You have never turned your back on me under any circumstances. I honestly wish from the bottom of my heart that your life had been easier over the years. You have sure had your share of hard times and heartbreaks. Throughout your life you have suffered years of undeserved mental abuse from others. If I could take all of you're unhappiness and carry the load myself I would do just that. Throughout your hard times I have watched you and learned many valuable lessons of life. You have been a great teacher! Thank you for that little look that you always have. You know, that unique little look of disgust and disapproval! I used to hate it when you looked at me like that. Now I would take any little look you want to give me just to be able to see and touch you every day. Miles and time have robbed us of so much. I would take any look you want to give me to be with you. There is nothing about you that I dont love. I hope that I leave this earth before you do. I would love to be the one in Heaven looking over you. Showering you with blessings from above. Sending falling stars for you to wish upon filled with love, hope and happiness. I would love to be your guardian angel in Heaven as you have been mine on earth.

I love you Mama.

A Picture Of You

I think the prettiest way
That I ever saw you look
Was on that day you smiled at me
Your picture then I took!

Standing so proud and tall
In front of that beautiful tree.
You looked right straight into my heart
Your beauty I could see.

Your lipstick matched the colors
Of the flowers in delight.
Your hair was glistening at its best,
Radianent in the sunlight.

I'll never forget that special day
I took that picture of you.
I think that could be the very day
I fell in love with you.

When God Created Mothers

God knew what He was doing
When He created Mothers.
The qualities He gave them
Are possessed by not one other.

They have a way of speaking soft
That calms your greatest fears.
A voice embeded in your soul
That carries you for years.

She has a way of letting you know
That her love is always near.
The tenderness of her gentle hand
As she dries your every tear.

A Mother always stands by you
Even when you're wrong.
Then she tries to guide you right
When she has you all alone.

When in the company of others
Never making you feel small
With pride and joy she'll stand by you
And help you to stand tall.

She has a way of holding you up
When things in life go wrong.
She'll carry you till she can tell
That once again you're strong.

When she thinks you need the space
To venture out and grow,
She lets you feel you're on your own
But never did let go.

The part of us we leave behind
A Mother keeps alive.
No matter how much time goes by
You'll always be her child.

God knew what He was doing
When He created Mothers.
They have a way of loving you
That compares to not one other.

When You Thought I Wasnt looking

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me good night,
and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt,
but it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I looked ... and wanted to say....
thanks for all the things I saw
when you thought I wasn't looking.

Reflections Of A Mother

I gave you life, but cannot live it for you.
I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn.
I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you.
I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it.
I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe.
I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you.
I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you beautiful inside.
I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you.
I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you.
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish.
I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor.
I can advise you about friends, but cannot choose them for you.
I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure.
I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation.
I can tell you about drinking, but I can't say "no" for you.
I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them.
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you.
I can teach you about kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious.
I can warn you about sins, but I cannot make you moral.
I can love you as a child, but I cannot place you in God's family.
I can teach you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life.
