Eddie Curry

Devoted husband, father, brother, son, and friend

Eddie was driving his Coca-Cola truck westbound when he was struck by a dump truck headed eastbound. The driver of the dump truck came over the overpass at a high rate of speed when he locked up his brakes trying to avoid the traffic that backed up on the eastbound side. The truck skidded and swerved into the opposing lanes of traffic, barely missing many other cars that were stopped before slamming into Eddie's vehicle, and smashing it against the concrete barrier at the edge of the overpass. The driver of the dump truck had a blood alcohol level of 2.2, way over state limit. Not his first offense either. Witnesses to the horrific accident stated that the impact was so tremendous that it shook the cars in the eastbound lanes. The impact shattered the cab of the Coca-Cola truck and broke the rear of the truck into several pieces. Bottles of soda were scattered and broken all over the road and all over the access road. One witness stayed with Eddie and kept telling him he would be OK even though he knew that Eddie had already had passed. He was killed instantly. The force of the dump truck ripped his face unrecognizable. He would have lost his eyes if he hadn't had his sunglasses on. The witness that stayed with him thought he was a sandy haired Irish man, and Eddie has black hair, and is Indian. The glass and metal scalped him. Eddie was wearing his seatbelt, but the steering wheel was shoved into his sternum causing his heart to explode on impact. His legs were both broken, and his feet were smashed down to nothing. We couldn't even put his boots on him the day he was buried . Dee Foster, the witness that stayed with Eddie until they removed his body, was in the direct path of the dump truck. His wife and 14 month old son where with him. Eddie's life was taken when it shouldn't have been, but the three lives of a family were spared. Dee feels guilty for being spared, I just tell him that Eddie would have gladly given his life to save that of a child. He was out making a living when some idiot took him away from us.

Eddie married Jennifer Jane Higgins on September 20, 1997 at Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo, Tx. On November 29, 1998 Jennifer gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Alyssa Layne Curry. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and many wonderful nieces and nephews that absolutely adored their uncle. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, and friend.

Eddie was my children's godfather, and now they will never know him. I don't know what I will do with my kids if something was to happen to me or my husband. I will never trust another person the way I did Eddie. He loved my children like they were his own. He would have given you the shirt off of his back if you needed it.

It's really unfair that his life was taken so soon. He will never hear his daughter's first words, or see her take her first stumbling steps in life. Nor will he be there to kiss the bumps away when she falls. He'll never take her picture when she goes to her senior prom, or have the joy of waiting up all night for her to come home safely. He'll never see her graduate from high school, or send her off to college with big DADDY tears in his eyes. He'll never walk down the isle on her wedding day, or meet his grandchildren. Alyssa will never depend on her Daddy the way that a dautghter should. It's not fair to Alyssa to only know her daddy through the memories that we have of him. She should have him there everyday the same way I have my father.

Jennifer is 22 years old and is a widow. She buried the only soul mate that she will ever have in life. I've been friends with her for all of my life, and never has anyone loved her as much as Eddie did. She knew that he would take care of her until they were old and gray. Now she will be old without him. I know that Eddie will watch over her and Alyssa from heaven, but he should be here with us.

Eddie's father performed their wedding ceremony, and then he had to bury him.
