On October 9, 1999 Matt was driving back into town with one of his friends at about 2:00 in the morning, and he was out on the highway. Matt and his friend Chuck had been to a bar at about 1:00 a.m., in which they were served alcohol while still under age(Matt 17, Chuck 20). They left the bar at about 1:55 a.m. and headed for home but they never made it. It was a very foggy night and Matt having a .249 BAL didn't help the matters any. He came to a curve and went straight of into a ditch, he did some how correct the steering but a little too much and hit an embankment which sent the truck into a 140 mph spin, and then an end over end roll. Both the young men where ejected from the vehicle, Matt was killed instantly with a broken neck and many other injuries. Chuck, however, suffered severe head injuries he did make it to the hospital but died the next day.
I lost my love and my life that night, there will never be another Matthew Meyer, forever 17.
Though my life will never be the same he, like always, has made me stronger, more mature, and has taught me one of life's most important lessons: How to love and be loved till death do we part.
