GRINNIN' GILBERT'S GALLOPING TAILS

Welcome To My Humble Abode

Hey there, how are ya? My name is Grinning Gilbert, well that is my new name, (I like it, don't you?)

March 1 is my special day, it is my GOTCHA DAY!!! I am so very very happy to be at my home now for six years! Seems like yesterday I came, but every day is a happy day for me. Read my story and you'll see why!

I have one special birthday wish this year is that the doggies and kitties that haven't a home find that special someone that will love them and adore them for the rest of their lives here... I wish that most of all. Please everyone say a prayer for those that are in the animals shelters... be kind and give them homes, they all deserve it.

I hope you enjoy my story here... Be sure to leave me a note in my guestbook if you happen to read it, I WUV notes! speshully from girlee doggies, (it's OK Molly Brown, I still love you the best, and of course my girlfriend MillieMay across the Atlantic!)

My Two Favorite Girls

MillieMay and Molly Brown

We got to meet a wonderful buddy named Shilo... he lived not far from my house. Shilo was so much fun, he packed so much life into every single day. Our dear friend Shilo knew what it took to live life...

Unfortunately Shilo didn't get to live long, see he was born in a Puppy Mill in the midwest, sold to a Pet Store and from the day he was born he was in pain. His legs were crooked, and before he was a year old had to have surgery to try to correct them. The surgery was successful for that time, but over the next year the poor breeding he was dealt with took it's tole. Shilo has gone to the bridge, and will teach all the puppers up there how to catch and play with a ball, and get ice out of a refrigerator and rip woobies up... We love you Shilo and miss you terribly. May the rainbow bridge be everything you ever imagined.

I tell you this story because Shilo was my friend, and I want you to know that it is very important if you get a puppy to know what their breeding is. Pet Store puppies aren't always bred with good mom's and daddy's. Things such as this error with Shilo's breeding can happen if the breeders don't care to properly educate themselves on responsible breeding. Please be sure to ask for clearances (eyes, hips, heart), and research their pedigrees. If they have none or are not willing to show you, RUN RUN RUN the other way! Please do this in Shilo's memory...

Shilo's mommy started him a webpage, but unfortunately couldn't end it. It lives on the internet... stop and see him, he was a gorgeous golden!

Shilo's Dog House

I don't remember my first given name, it's been too long ago. I found my new mom the first day of March, 1998. My new mom took Jessie and Sadie for a ride to the mountains to look for snow. I don't know what that means but I'm glad they did. I had been wandering the desert in Arizona for a gazillion days, looking for a safe place to sleep and food that didn't make me sick.

When it was just the right time, I crossed a 4 lane highway right in front of her. She says it was fate, I say EXACTLY!!! She got out of the car and talked to me right away, I knew it would be OK to go with her, she talked so softly and nicely to me. I met Jessie and Sadie in the car and they looked at me and said OK. We were going "home". That sounded SOOOO good.

We got home and I met my new dad and cat brother "Rocky". The first day with them I got food and water that didn't make me sick and a B A T H.
I felt much better but I was VERY TIRED. I think I slept for 8 solid hours.

Mom took me to a "vet" so I introduced myself to him with my paw. He looked and touched me all over and gave me a few shots that didn't hurt too much. He pronounced me in good health other than needing plenty of rest, food and love. He also said I was neutered (whatever that means). He figured me to be about 8 months to a year old.

I've been eating whenever I want now, but I still can't eat too much. I'm still tired a lot. Mom gives me vitamins everyday to help me gain my strength. I do get food cravings now and then and I got into a little bit of trouble with dad over it.

Dad cooked a lot of nice smelly things in the kitchen for "St. Patrick's Day". A few days later he took out a piece of corned beef out of the big box in the kitchen. He left it on the countertop for me. I took it to the backyard and ate in all. I found out that it really wasn't for me (but it was darn good anyway!) I apologized to him after he told me a few words I don't know and then he forgave me. I know now anything on the countertop is not for furr pets.

I still sleep a lot and can't seem to get caught up, mom says it will take awhile. I dream alot too. In the dreams I'm still running the desert and searching for food and safety. I cry because in my dreams I am reminded how hungry and lonely I am. Dad or mom talk me out of the bad dreams. At first I would wake up scared and I'd growl at them but little by little I know it will get better and I'll be OK.

I was in a photo contest in July 2001, and WON, thanks to all my friends, family all over the world! My main reason for entering the contest was to tell everyone about rescue, and we think we may have been able to educate others about it. Remember people, there are too many beautiful wonderful pets out there in shelters, or DUMPED like I was, please make a place in your heart for a dog or kitty to be a part of your life. You will never be sorry. When you get a pet, spay or neuter them, so there isn't another litter to be stuck in the pound or dumped. Winning this contest will place me in the 2001 Hot Diggety Dawg Photo Final Contest! So keep your eye on Cassandra's Hot Diggety Dog Contest for all the wonderful doggies and vote for your favorite! Grinnin Gilbert thanks you!

Stop by Cassandra and Baby Cass' Den for the Hot Diggety Dawg Photo Contest each month and meet some more wonderful doggies!
