Nehemiah Burgess was married to Sophia Woodman at Southport, now Kenosha, by Jason Lathrop, Pastor of the Baptist Church as is recorded in Racine County vital records Volume 1, page 102. Birth information from Esther M. Culwell, great grand daughter of Nehemiah. In 1867, Nehemiah and his wife moved to Gage County, Nebraska. He and his wife are buried in a small country cemetery about 14 miles northwest of Beatrice, Nebraska, and three miles east of DeWitt, Nebraska. Nehemiah married Sophia Anna WOODMAN on 17 May 1843 in Southport, Kenosha Co., WI. Sophia was born 22 Feb 1821 in Palmyra, Wayne Co., NY. She died 17 Dec 1888 in Grant Twp, Gage Co., NE.

70. Alonzo BURGESS (Benjamin , Benajah , John ) was born 27 Aug 1820 in East Bennington, Bennington Co., VT. He died 28 Feb 1902 in , Racine Co., WI and was buried in Sylvania Cem., Racine Co., WI.

Alonzo moved to Oswego County, New York at the age of three. He moved to Wisconsin at the age of 15, arriving at Southport (now Kenosha) on 5 March 1835. He went to work for his uncle William Foster, and worked for him for five and one half years. He went into the brick business near Kenosha and followed that trade for six years. He bought 80 acres of land at Somers and in 1847, moved to Mount Pleasant and settled on 160 acres of land. By 1879 he owned 420 acres of land.

  110 M iv Frederick Alonzo BURGESS was born 20 Sep 1850 in Kellogs Corners, Racine Co., WI. He died 15 Feb 1923 in Racine, Racine Co., WI and was buried 17 Feb 1923 in Sylvania Cem., Racine Co., WI.

Frederick and his family lived at Sylvania, Wisconsin known as Kelloggs Corners in Racine County. His descendants were living on the same land and in the same house in 1990. He had three children. His obituary indicated that he was 72 years of age at his death.

Carrie, shown in some records as Caroline, lived with her husband and two daughters at Somers, Wisconsin. The obituary of Frederick A. Burgess in 1923 stated that his sister, Mrs. Elliot E. Cook was residing in Somers, Wisconsin. This person was Carrie Amelia Burgess Cook. A marriage certificate for Carrie Burgess and Elliot Cook was found at the Kenosha County Historical Museum.

Carrie married Elliot Utley COOK on 15 Dec 1875 in Mt. Pleasant, Racine Co., WI.
  112 F vi Martha Artemetia BURGESS was born 13 Oct 1854. She died 13 Feb 1873.

Mary A. Buswell was the daughter of Ezra Buswell, an early settler of Wisconsin. She was a teacher and taught in Ohio, Kenosha, and at the Racine High School. Her obituary indicates that she was the daughter of John Buswell. She was living at 1844 College Ave., Racine at the time of her death.

The obituary of Frederick Burgess in 1923 stated that Miss M. May Burgess was residing in Racine, Wisconsin. This indicates that she probably never married.
  114 M viii Ezra Roy BURGESS was born 13 Sep 1872 in Mt. Pleasant, Racine Co., WI. He died about 5 Jun 1967.

Ezra Roy Burgess was a Judge for 22 years. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1896 with a BA degree, and in 1898 with a law degree. He was a member of Gittins and Burgess law firm.

Ezra married Gretchen A. RICKEMAN on 29 Jul 1909 in Racine, Racine Co., WI.

72. Patience BURGESS (Benjamin , Benajah , John ) was born 1823 in Bennington, Bennington Co., VT. She died 30 Aug 1894 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI and was buried in St. Francis, Brighton, WI.

BIBLIOGRAPHY: Census records from her children seem to indicate that Patience Burgess McNulty was born in New York. The Hoosick area of NY would be the most likely place to find her birth. Patience's grave is located at St. Francis in Brighton. On November 16, 1842 Alfred Foster Jr. and wife sold land to Peter and Patience in Racine County, town of Southport. Southport is now Kenosha and is located in Kenosha County. Alfred Foster was the father of Amanda Foster, step-mother of Patience.

DEATH: Her death record was located in the Kenosha County vital records as document 54, Vol 2, pg 167.

Patience married Peter MCNULTY, son of John MCNULTY and Anna UNKNOWN, about 1842 in Racine or, Kenosha Co., WI. Peter was born 1807 in , , Ireland. He died after 1 Jun 1880 in Dover, Racine Co., WI.

BIBLIOGRAPHY: Peter McNulty was found in the 1842 census at Pleasant Prairie, Racine County, Wisconsin. Two adults and one male child were in the family. By the 1850 census the family had five children and were living in the town of Pike, Kenosha County, Wisconsin. By 1860 the family had six children and was living in Brighton, Kenosha Co.
The 1870 census shows the family with ten children and living in Dover, Racine County, Wisconsin. In 1880 the family was still living in Dover, with their son Henry and daughter Loretta. Henry was listed as idiotic and insane. Peter was listed as age 79 and indigent with palsy. The family could not be found in the 1885 state census for Wisconsin. We were unable to locate Peter in the 1840 census. Peter is buried in an unmarked grave identified as Block 2, Lot 10, Grave 4 of the Tom Morrow Lot at St. Mary's Church in Dover, Wisconsin. This information was found in the church records but no recording of the date of death was listed.

Henry McNulty was declared insane after he and his brother Peter Jr. killed their sister Julia by hitting her in the head with a rock.
She was five years old at her death in 1864. Henry never married. Birth information from the 1860 US census for Wisconsin.
  116 F ii Mary Ann MCNULTY was born 11 Mar 1844 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. She died 7 Apr 1912 in Burlington, Racine Co., WI and was buried in St. Mary's Cem., Burlington, Racine Co., WI.

BIBLIOGRAPHY: Mary Ann McNulty died in 1912 from cancer. Her obituary stated that she suffered for several years prior to her death on Easter Sunday. It went on to say that she was born in Somers, Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Her funeral was held at St. Charles' Catholic Church in Burlington.

Mary married Henry HECK, son of Johann HECK and Anna Barbara SCHAEFER, on 16 Jan 1869 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. Henry was born 10 Feb 1839 in Alendorf, Prussia. He died 20 Feb 1920 in Waterford, Racine Co., WI.

BIOGRAPHY: Henry Heck arrived in America with his brothers and sisters in 1852. He was 13 years old at the time. Henry lived at Brighton, Wisconsin until 1857 when he moved to Minnesota with his family. In 1861 he returned to Wisconsin and worked as a laborer on the farm of Gilbert Tabor for $16 per month. On February 11, 1862 he enlisted into Company K, 19th Regiment of Wisconsin. He was later assigned to Company F of the same Regiment. Henry fought in many areas of the South during the war and was wounded in the left leg at the Battle of Drewy's Bluff, Virginia on May 16, 1864. Henry was hit by a ball that entered his leg four inches above his ankle, hit the bone and deflected downward. The ball exited through his heel. He returned to duty on October 12, 1864 and was finally mustered out of the Army on April 29, 1865 at Madison, Wisconsin. Henry returned to farming at Brighton, Wisconsin after the war and married Mary Ann three years later. His marriage record was found in the Kenosha County Court House in Vol 4, pg 12. The original document was found in storage in the vital records area. The marriage document of Henry and Mary Ann was the key document which lead us to the German village of Alendorf. His marriage document number was 1380.

  117 F iii Adaline MCNULTY was born 1845 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI.

Adaline McNulty Newman was found in the 1870 and 1880 census. No record of her could be found in the 1900 census. The 1880 census shows her as a widow and her age is shown as 34. This is probably incorrect and her correct age should be 39. The marriage record of Adaline McNulty and John Newmann was found in LDS film 1862418 for St. Francis Xavier church at Brighton, WI.

Adaline married John NEWMANN on 5 Jun 1861 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. John was born 1819 in Comitatatu, Longford, Ireland. He died 10 Feb 1879 in Burlington, Racine Co., WI.

Church records show his name as John Newmann however census records for 1870 and 1880 list the family as Newman. Death information and place of birth information is from the St. Mary's church record at Burlington, WI on LDS film 1862504.
  118 F iv Elizabeth L. MCNULTY was born 1848 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. She died 1925 and was buried in Rockton, , IL.

Elizabeth McNulty Aspland attended the funeral of Robert S. Heck in 1923. She attended with Mrs. Joseph Brady who was her granddaughter Eva M. Aspland Brady from Beloit, Wisconsin. Her marriage to Sherman Aspland was found in the Racine County vital records Volume 6, page 280. Birth information from 1860 US census of Wisconsin.

Elizabeth married Sherman ASPLAND on 5 Jan 1865 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. Sherman was born 1845 in , , England. He died 1928 in Rockton, , IL.

The parents of Sherman Aspland may be James S. Aspland born 8 Mar 1809, died on 5 Sep 1884 at Rockton, and Ann born 12 May 1815, died 6 Jul 1891 at Rockton.
  119 M v John MCNULTY was born 23 Jul 1850 in Kenosha, Kenosha Co., WI and was christened 2 Oct 1850 in St. James, Kenosha, Kenosha Co., WI. He died before 1860.

Birth and christening information from St. James Catholic church records, LDS film #1887302. John McNulty was not listed in the 1860 US census for Wisconsin and is presumed to have died at an early age.
  120 M vi Peter MCNULTY Jr. was born 1850 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. He died 8 Mar 1915 in Insane Asylum, Racine Co., WI and was buried in Insane Asylum, Racine Co., WI.

Peter McNulty Jr. was declared insane by the courts after he killed his sister Julia in 1863 by hitting her in the head with a rock.
He was still in the Racine County Insane Asylum in the 1910 census.
He was listed as single, age 60, able to read and write. He died there in 1915. Birth information from the 1860 US census of Wisconsin.

Julia McNulty was killed at the age of five years by a blow to the head from a rock. Her brothers Peter and Henry were declared insane by the courts after the incident. Peter was determined to be the one who killed his sister.

Lawrence McNulty left home at the age of sixteen to work on a farm in Wild Rose. He remained there after his marriage to Clara Christie. Information from the book "The Grassroots History of Racine County", 1978.

John Amos Harris was born in Wisconsin. His parents were born in England. In 1910 at the time of the census, he was living at Spooner Township, Washburn Co., WI.
  126 F xii Loretta Mary MCNULTY was born 19 Sep 1868 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. She died 27 Jan 1949 in Antioch, Lake County, IL and was buried in Hickory Union Ce, Antioch, IL.

Loretta McNulty lived in Wilmot, Wisconsin with Lawrence McNulty after the death of her father. Lawrence is thought to be the brother of Peter McNulty for this reason. Loretta was married on 19 Feb 1887 at the house of the rector of St. Francis church at Brighton, Kenosha Co. Wis. The witnesses were James Henry Heck and Mary Ann Heck. The marriage was thought to be a mixed marriage as Adam was not Catholic. Lorreta and Adam had a family group picture taken about 1935. Marriage information was found in the Racine County vital records Vol 5, pg 160. The civil record showed her name as "Lauretta McNolty". Loretta and Adam were found living in Bristol, Wisconsin in the 1910 census.

Loretta married Adam DIBBLE on 19 Feb 1887 in Brighton, Kenosha Co., WI. Adam was born 1860 in Yorkville, Racine Co., WI. He died 1 Jul 1936 in Antioch, Lake County, IL.

The Adam Dibble family lived in Dover, WI in 1887 and in Yorkville, WI in 1889. He was listed as living at Bristol, Kenosha County, Wisconsin on April 10, 1910 for the census.
