Depression/Manic Depression/Bipolar ~
There are a few
fellow DISIers that deal with this everyday. Either personally or
with a loved one. My hope is that with education, awareness,
patience and understanding we can all work to put this illness under
"our" control instead of it controlling.
Here are a few
ways fellow DISIer's deal with mild depression, or having a bad day:
* Call my
best friend-(Sueb010101)~~~*Talk to family/friends(CNelder)~~~*Spend
Money(ALuvlySwan)~~~*Eat,vent on DISI/online friends, talk to
therapist(Mommybear1)~~~*Clean house(Waznik)~~~*Talk, talk, talk(MyRENO)~~~*Sleep(CrazDMom4)~~~*Try
to avoid feeling sorry for myself and remember what I am Blessed
with(ArtsyLadee)~~~*Listen to music and hug my kids(DLPERB)~~~*Eat, cry,
or call Collen(Edna6)~~~*Read a good book, take some "me"
time.(Miztecole)~~~*If it's mild, probably read depressing poetry,
listen to depressing music like Joy Division and "Disintegration"
by The Cure(OxyMOMBranwen)

Cancer ~
We, at
DISI, recently celebrated slaying the "dragon". We wish to
send out Peace, Love, Faith and Hope that someday all Warriors shall
claim victory.

Light
A Candle
Light a
candle for the living
Light a candle for the lost
Light a candle, 'spite the Dragon
Look around you at his cost.
Light a
candle to remember
Light a candle as we cry
Light a candle for the yesterdays
That too quickly passed us by.
Light a
candle in the darkness
Light a candle, light the way
Light a candle for the brave souls
Who lost the fight today.
Light a
candle in the daylight
Light a candle in your heart
Light a candle for those who battle on
And for those who've yet to start.
Light a
candle for tomorrow
Light a candle for the cure
Light a candle, burn the Dragon,
For that hope we will endure.
Light a
candle in their honor
Light a candle to their grace
Light a candle ever after
Light a candle, keep the faith.

Abuse and Survival ~
Sadly, this is perhaps
the most common bond that joins us DISIer's. It is hard to express in
words just how deeply the scars run, or the courage it takes to not only
heal, but endure.
A New
Start!
"I found my "child within" today
for many years...so locked away
Loving, embracing - - needing so much
if only I could reach in and touch.
I did not know this child of mine - -
We were NEVER acquainted at three or nine
But TODAY I felt the crying inside
I'm here, I SHOUTED..--- come reside
We hugged each other ever so tight
as feelings emerged, of HURT and of FRIGHT
It's okay, I sobbed...I LOVE YOU SO!!
You are precious to me, I want you to know
My child, my child, you are safe today
You will not be abandoned --- I'm here to stay.
We laughed, and oh God how we cried, it was a discovery
This warm, loving child, is my RECOVERY.
So I will take each day, one at a time
For my inner self to become truly mine."

HIV/AIDS ~
We
have a dear friend who has AIDS. Her courage, and ability to persevere
is inspiring.
LION
I am the proud
dignified ruler of the jungle.
The conqueror of truths, the restorer of order. I am the
strong voice of reason. The challenger of chaos, the
teacher of love. I am the passion of the animal kingdom.
The protector against evil. My heart rules my life, and I will
fight with all my might. My love encompasses the world. I
stand my ground-I won't move an inch. Life is eternal. I'll
fight to the bitter end.
