Degu

I have some really entertaining critters called Degu. They are really silly and fun to watch. I'm still learning about them myself so I won't go into the care of them but just wanted to show them off. So here are some pictures:

Degu's like to take dust baths. I bought some Chinchilla dust and put a little in a bowl and the degu had a blast! I suggest doing this outside cos' it will get extremely dusty in the house if you do it inside. I tried that once and just once.

Aren't they really cute?

When I brought them home I told my kids that they are suppose to be really good escape artist so they wanted to give them "magic names".

Their names are:
Abbra,
Cadabra,
Hokus
and Pokus.
Just don't ask me which is which cos' I don't know, but my kids say they can tell. Although, Hokus is the only female so I can tell that one. **smile**

Degus enjoy snuggling together when they nap, sleep and rest. The are very social and seem to be really affectionate towards eachother.

My kids really enjoy holding the Degu. All of the Degu are hand tamed.

On July 29, 1999, we had our first Degu litter! 3 babies to be exact! Here are the baby pictures.

The babies are just one day old. Within hours they had their eyes opened and were exploring the cage as you can see from these pictures. They don't always just stay in the nest. But if Mom wants them back she just picks them up and carrys them back.

Here is a shot of Mom, Dad and one of the babies. The other two are snuggled in under the mother already.

At only one week old the babies are starting to wheel! I'm so amazed. They seem to develope and are very agile quickly. Here a few pics of one of the babies on a wheel.

I have more pictures coming. They are being developed as I type this...hehehe.
I always take lots of pictures.
