Bates Cemetery
| The Bates Cemetery, as it was referred to when I inquired, is located in Richmond Twp.
about 2-3 miles NW of Richmond, Michigan on Armada Ridge Road. The Cemetery is situated on a piece
of property between two residences and begins right at the road. This small piece of history, formerly known as
the "Highbanks District Burying Ground", was deeded to the people of Richmond by John Bates and his son
Marvin F. Bates on October 9, 1852 for the sum of $25.00. There was a committe created, possibly to oversee
the grounds, that consisted of the following individuals: William L. Bates (John's son), Eli G. Perkins and Whitman
A. Corbin. Names included below with an ( * ) were included in the original cemetery plat. |
